Kanye Unveils Practical Footwear, Is Not Doing Porn

thumbnail: Kanye Unveils Practical Footwear, Is Not Doing Porn

Bright red Louis Vuitton sneakers with a flap to tuck your pants into! Finally. He tells NY Times men's fashion blog "The inspiration [for the shoes] came from a jacket with a huge collar in the movie Dune. West went on: "Most [of them] focus on the tongue, so I wanted to do something different." (That is definitely what she said.) Becoming a designer also happens to be the best way to ensure you stop getting turned away at fashion shows. If that rouge boot clashes with, well, everything you own, worry not: they come in other colors. Interesting but hardly unexpected; it's not like Ye was gonna spend so much time blogging about hot looks without eventually making 'em. Maybe this pic with Aziz means a Kanye standup set is around the corner.

Also it looks like some people are taking that whole "Be Kanye" thing literally. Sorry ladies, reports of Lil West's film debut have been greatly exaggerated. But just in case, what would Kanye's porn name be? Best answer gets a copy of his adult film that's coming out never.

Grateful Dead: Chuckin', Got Their Chips Cashed In...

thumbnail: Grateful Dead: Chuckin', Got Their Chips Cashed In...

Rock shoes are fun for everyone, yeah? No. OK yeah, fun for blogging. The unexpectedly fertile field of rock/shoe tie-ins adds another photo set for the world of internet comments today, with new images of the Dead's very own line of Converse. This makes 100 years of the shoe brand, a centennial celebration that's already under way via the Cobain edition. Which pairs well with the Ramones' edition, see because these are artists that had publicly proclaimed their affinity for the footwear. But for the Dancing Bears? From my limited Dead show experience (I turned 17 at the first show with an "Unbroken Chain," which my hippie friends deemed highly auspicious) a Birkenstock or Teeva or barefoot-and-stoned line of footwear would be more fitting. But the press release we received this morning has its own ideas. Click that pic up there to see a bigger version of the shoe, and here's another Dead design:

Kurt Cobain Pushing Shoes From The Great Beyond, One More Time

We are constantly reminded of how much dead musicians love advertising footwear. Just recently Ian Curtis and Sid Vicious got in the game, and before that Kurt was unsuccessfully appropriated by Doc Martens. Well if you've been waiting since then 'til now to finally have some Cobain-y shoes, get ready to go running grunge fans: The Daily Swarm has images of the new Courtney Love-approved Cobain Converse. They're coming soon -- in more than one diaristic style! -- to a mall near you. The sneaks are part of Converse's 100th Anniversary and their "Welcome To The Converse Century" campaign. Smells like Odor Eaters to us, but then again, as morbid as it is, he was wearing One Stars when he died, so at least we know he liked the product. (That's called a silver lining.) Remember kids, "Punk rock means freedom" ... and posthumous endorsement deals from your creepy wife.

More Dead Rock Star Shoe Endorsements

Come on R.I.P.ped rockers, it's getting really hard to keep track of this now. P4K reports that Ian Curtis and Sid Vicious will be amongst the artist-likenesses used to pimp Converses to people who prefer taking style tips from dead people. It's part of the shoe company's "Connectivity" campaign, "which gets its name by 'visually "connecting" past and present Converse icons.'"

Doc Martens already used Sid (and Joey Ramone, Kurt Cobain) you'll remember, though that was sort of without permission. (By "sort of" we mean "totally.") But were we wrong to think Joy Division New Balance boys?

At least there is no confusion when it comes to still-alive rockers and their duds: Just one company at a time, ala Dino Jr and Nike. Scott actually owns the Dinosaur Jr SB Dunk high tops! His review: "They are comfortable and do not match anything."

Gimme Gimme Shoe Treatment

Since we checked in with the licensing activity over at the Cobain estate earlier today, thought we'd take a look at what's been going on in other rock legend intellectual property news. But unlike, say, mini-flask key chains, the Ramones' latest namebrand-lending falls in line with what's shaping up to be a grand tradition: Dinosaur Jr, Joy Division, Johnny Marr, and now ... the Ramones very own pair of Converse kicks.

Buy 'em. This shoe fits the Ramones; Joey insisted his band mates choose between Keds and Chuck Taylors. And according to this AP article, Kurt loved his Converse, too. So Converse Inc., we've got just the ad agency for ya.

Fancy Footwear For The Well-Heeled Indie Rocker

When Johnny joined forces with Modest Mouse, he upped the band's "dapper" quotient 100%. Next up for the guitarist? Trans-Atlantic sneaker designer. Johnny religiously dons his PF Flyers before hitting the stage each night, and now he's designed a shoe with dark blue leather and black accents for the aspiring Marr in you.

Nike's Dinosaur Jr. SB Dunk High

Coming to pretentious sneaker shrines this fall.

(Via Optimus Crime/The Hundreds.)

You say brand mash-up gone wrong. I say these are gonna look groovy with my Sebadoh tracksuit.
