Feistodon, the split 7″ from Feist and Mastodon, might be the most intriguing release on this year’s Record Store Day slate. On the single, both artists cover recent songs from one another, with Feist taking on “Black Tongue” and Mastodon giving their version of “A Commotion.” Both songs are online now, and the end result turns out to be a pretty fascinating example of what happens when artists play around with each other’s aesthetics. Listen to both songs below.
Feistodon is out tomorrow.

Feist should make a whole record like that…that was amazing
I like Feist better when she rocks it. Maybe she should do an all-metal covers album. She could lose the “s” from the last LP and just call it Metal.
I’m not a metal fan, not by far, but I really like that track as played by Mastodon. It makes me quite pissed off that some tracks are only available as vinyl (or as low quality mp3 streams). Like that recent track by Four Tet and burial, “Nova”.
Why do artists and labels do this?
To keep record stores in business.
Makes sense, and I fully support it, but man I wish there was a way I could enjoy all this good stuff despite my lack of a record player.
