Field Report is the stage name of Eau Claire, WI songwriter Chris Porterfield, and like you might have guessed given his hometown, he’s affiliated with Bon Iver (he played pedal steel in Justin Vernon’s old band DeYarmond Edison). “Taking Alcatraz” concerns the narrative of Native American activist Richard Oakes and his famous occupation of Alcatraz Island. “If I die / At least I made a choice,” sings Porterfield.
