TV doesn’t have the stranglehold on adolescent imagination it once did, but still it is fun to think about impressionable adolescents sitting up in their parents’ living rooms fighting sleep, stuck only with basic cable and boredom, waiting for some direction in life, and coming upon some late night musical performance that clicks and alters some stretch of prime identity-shaping years. And it’s fun to think that’s most assuredly what happened to at least a handful of Brit kids last night, when Claire Boucher stuck a third eye on her forehead and entranced them with the appropriately titled “Genesis” from the appropriately titled Visions, awakening them to her brand of techno-spiritual electro-pop and opening the door for so many .gif and Tumblrs and years of MacBook beat making. Welcome, young ones. From Jools:

probably tastes like bad onions and dirt.
Genesis is becoming my favourite song from the record. But I might change my mind anytime, I’m loving everything about Grimes, seriously.
i can’t help when i see her, specially with her hair back like that- thinking of ‘Veda’ from My Girl…(anna chlumsky). she was hot in In the Loop (2009).
I loved the part where the third eye starts to wander and then begins to tear due spring pollen……….tough performance.
