On “Two Angles,” Bon Iver collaborator S. Carey showed off an ever-tightening sensibility, refining his sound some since the cycle of his overlooked All We Grow. His new EP, Hoyas, continues in that vein, exhibiting a stark, pensive majesty alongside textures both acoustic and electronic. We’ve got it streaming below.
Hoyas is out 5/8 on Jagjaguwar.

He’s hardly a Bon Iver knock off. He is a Bon Iver band member, one of the drummers. Another wonderful musician out of the same city.
Bon Iver knockoff? I couldn’t disagree more. As mentioned above he IS part of Bon Iver and a intergal part at that, check out his debut ‘All we Grow’ (one of the most stunning and potent albums ive heard in a while) and it will become apparent just how much his raw talent and musical depth adds to Bon Iver.

Thank you, Stereogum. I really needed this today.
I really liked ‘All We Grow’, but it seems that with this new EP S. Carey’s songwriting finally matches his knack for beautiful instrumentation. Can’t wait to see what he’s brewing for another full-length.

Could be great if the vocals weren’t fucking stupid.
