I’m hearing U2′s free Brooklyn concert has been moved to 4:30. So you’ll have to tell your boss your “doctor’s appointment” took longer than expected.

The rockers are now driving around midtown on a flatbed truck, presumably en route to DUMBO. Bono is singing “We are the band in your neighborhood, in your neighborhood, in your neighborhoooood” and mugging for cameras.

Here are some cameraphone grabs from their Times Square pitstop around 1:30. Photos by Monica Lee/Stereogum.

UPDATE: Stereogum correspondent Vertigo Thighs provides live U2 concert updates via text message.

02:52 Crazy ass line to get in
03:47 They crossed Old Manhattan Bridge on the flatbed and said “We’re coming!”
04:03 Very soon
04:39 Opened with “Vertigo”
04:49 “Miracle Drug”
04:54 I e-mailed you a really bad cell phone picture

04:55 This next boring ass song is dedicated to his dad Bob
05:07 Zzzzzz
05:09 Next is “Original Of The Species.” Crowd cheers and Bono asks how we know this shit
05:12 Bono is now playing the guitar … Look out world!
05:16 I think Fred Armisen just walked by
05:18 “Beautiful Day”
05:23 And to finish it off, “I Will Follow.”

Thanks Mikey!

    1. From U2, I have learned how to dismantle an atomic bomb, as well as Windows Media’s Digital Rights Management.

Do you think the terrorists are U2 fans?

      -cyborg

    3. funny. I would think the terrorists would like to assemble a couple of atomic bombs, not dismantle them…

    4. Is that Spiderman in the third picture down?

Third photo down … the guy in the foreground looks like Tobey Maguire! Is that him?

    7. Woof! Time for U2 to join the classic rock genre. Do we really need another album from them? Personally, no. Not for the last several.

    8. show didn’t end after I will follow, I hope she didn’t leave…still had beautiful day, out of control and veritgo (again)

      amazing….

    9. I didn’t realize I was living under a rock, but there you have it.

They were playing on a flatbed while crossing over the Manhattan Bridge!

I can’t believe there are people who can say these guys are past their prime or even passe. I’m not the biggest U2 fan, but they emcompass everything a real rock and roll band should possess — integrity, soul, fire, grace, and excellent musicianship.

The show earlier today showed why these guys are loved & respected by so many people all over the world.

Great show. Great setting. Great band!

    11. I was at the show, it was fabulous. Full write-up tomorrow on my blog.

    13. i just watched the SNL ‘i will follow’ video and was struck like lightning with the realization that current U2 sounds so very very very very very much like ‘immigrant’ era gene loves jezebel. it’s uncanny.
