Bruce Springsteen doesn’t show up in his video for “Rocky Ground,” the gospel-tinged underclass lament from his new album Wrecking Ball. Instead, the clip superimposes scrawls of the song’s lyrics over images of urban desolation. It’s a blunt but effective way to make sure the song’s message gets across. Watch it below.
Wrecking Ball is out now on Columbia. Buy it from eMusic.

I’m a Bruce fan but this song is almost Mellencamp Lite. The rap part at the end is ridiculous. He needs to work with Brendan O’Brien again.
Yeah I’m not taken with this song either, Wrecking Ball has much stronger songs than this. Last time I cringed at a song on a Springsteen album this much was Skin To Skin on The Rising.
I don’t get why Bruce chooses to highlight this so much over some of the others – it was his Record Store Day release and it’s in virtually every set of his tour so far.
I’d much prefer him to have something like We Are Alive as a single.
