The Memory Tapes album was really great and I’m disappointed to see him left off both lists. Also, I thought Best Coast and Dum Dum Girls both released some super good songs this year that made me really excited for their full lengths.
Edward Sharpe, fun, Dan Black, Ida Maria, The Temper Trap… just to name a few. And I had Passion Pit on heavy rotation LAST year with their break out EP. Florence & The Machine should be higher.
yea, its a Grey area, but true. She didn’t get an America release till like March I think, and I personally didn’t hear about her till January, so I consider her a break out 2009, though overseas I think that album came out 2008.
I have a bad feeling that most of these new acts are really not going all that far. I need to write a reminder to check back at this list 5 years from now, because I bet that would be really interesting (or rather, really boring).
yeah. i’m willing to guess the only bands still around will be florence and the machine and the antlers. both of which seem to have some sort of longevity.
Thanks for sharing, sounds great. I’ve lived in Tuscany for a great many years and I love reading about anything related to my new home. I learn something different about the area every day.
I voted for the xx but i regret not voting for edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros.
No love for Memory Tapes? In a year with a lot of really great new acts (and music overall), he really stood out for me.

I’m with you…Their EP was one of my favorite releases this year.
I’m with you too. Washed Out deserves some props.

Ida Maria would be my pick, but I thought she was around last year.

That Real Estate LP was really REALLY good.
Seriously… MIike Snow? Did no one hear these guys?
despite these results, dawes is the clear winner of this category. they put out easily one of the best albums of the year.
REAL ESTATE SHOULD BE HIGHER

Which beach town in India has the best beach hotels? On first thought you might say Goa, but thinking more, Kerla might be the vhosen one.
