On 2010′s Black City, the longtime dancefloor adventurer Matthew Dear worked up a slickly dark and unique form of techno-pop. He’ll follow that album up later this summer with another one called Beams. And on first single “Her Fantasy,” he goes even deeper into the slinky underworld of Black City, creating a six-minute synthpop anthem that’s equal parts glossy and murky. Listen to it below.
Beams is out 7/28 on Ghostly.

Love it. ‘Black City’ was one of my favorites from 2010. This song has me excited for the album.
I hope that is the album cover.
This song is fantastic.
that is the album cover!
Who’s the artist? (Self-portrait maybe?) Very Francis Bacon-ish…
This is great! Love the decadently dark eroticism of his music. Every time any of his Black City tracks played in a party one could feel things heating up (or maybe it was just me, or pure coincidence, I don’t know).
