Behold, the opening track from Grizzly Bear’s full-length followup to Veckatimest. TODAY WE ARE ALL GRIZZLY BEARS. Fun Fact about that new Grizzly Bear press photo above: The fourth younger dude in flannel sort of obscured in the shot above is not Dan Rossen! But don’t worry, “Sleeping Ute” is definitely an electric Dan Rossen song. It’s in 6/8, and showcases DR’s “psychedelic tempest” songwriting side. Grizzly Bear, it should be said, likes to open albums this way. (See also Veckatimest‘s lead-in, “Southern Point.”)
The new Grizz album is title TBA, though date and label certain (9/18 via Warp). The band has lined up a world tour which starts at the end of August in Europe and includes a headlining set at Radio City this fall. That’s all still a ways off. “Sleeping Ute” — along with the full album tracklist and those tour dates — is here:

The way I knew that wasn’t Daniel Rossen in the flannel is because Daniel Rossen is in clear view on the left of the picture.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that Chris Bear?
Shit I think it is. Looked like Rossen to me.
you fucked up
lol
lol
lulz
No, that’s Grizzly Bear.
So good! Can definitely hear how Rossen’s experience making his Silent Hour/Golden Mile EP played into the formation of this. It’s incredible how immensely talented ever single member of this band is.
i’ve never felt so much joy and happiness, it’s ecstasy at its best
SAME :”’)
sameeeee AHHHH!!!!
More like Sleeping Beaut! This is excellent, Grizzly Bear have made my day again. Bring on To-Be-Announced-Album-Title!
3:10- Leonard Cohen action! HOT HOT HOT
so fucking good.
It’s so good it momentarily made me forget they totally snubbed Detroit. Again. (That’s OK, guys.)
It’s alright, they ignored Milwaukee too (It’s hard to get down to Chicago for concerts all the time!)
I here ya. I don’t have that kind of time anymore.
I also “hear ya.” I’m doing that too.
As someone who lives south of Atlanta, I have little sympathy for you.
I haven’t had an orgasm like that in awhile.
listening on repeat for the rest of all time
Let’s get this shit started!
GBear2k12 > Centipede Hz.
Grizbear + centipede are going to form like Voltron as a giant 100 legged bear headed beast that will consume John Mayer and Katy Perry and leave gorgeous music in its wake.
Shit is gonna be serious.

Honeycomb aint even on Centiped hz! I’m convinced both of these records will be mind blowing.
Yeah I don’t know about that claim. The only things we know so far from both bands is the list of tracks and the album release dates.
Honeycomb is not going to be on Centipede Hz and Avey Tare has said they are moving away from the MPP sound and going back to a “more AnCo sound” with Panda Bear back on the drums (which is a HUGE relief). I loved MPP but it’s not AnCo (Feels is my favorite AnCo album).
Either way, Grizzly Bear and AnCo are the two bands that I am most looking forward to releasing album this year.
lol
lol
I fully agree with this comment. theres no reason to declare a winner now, I’m looking forward to both of these albums more than anything else this year. and Feels is my favourite AnCo album.
Agreed. I wouldn’t sleep on AC this year – especially if they’re returning to a Feels-type style. That album was pretty damn great.
INCREDIBLE
Wow, these boys are good
grateful bear….. love it!!!!
balls to the wall
Everyone is excused from work for the rest of the day!!! Go home, listen on repeat, enjoy life!
yup!
The only band that makes me feel like every penny spent to purchase their music is used to its maximum. This is no exception…I just felt like I had a dry aged rib eye and a bottle of Caymus. Yeah thats right, I used food as a metaphor for Grizzly Bear. Call it an auditory meal and I’m stuffed. Check please.
It’s not ALL in 6/8, it’s in sections that are in different time signatures.
Which makes it even awesomer.
Finally!
This is overwhelmingly good!!
The many weeks before the release date are going to be long.
I know, I just want to cry :\
CONFIRMED: Jhvvrtykxsudt set for release on 9/18 via Warp!
That’s the sound I made when I saw this news post.
oh G-Bear, Thank you so much for including Seattle on your tour, its good to know someone cares

Obviously, you’re entitled to your opinion … even if it’s wrong … but it’s never a bad thing to be on Radiohead’s dick.
doesn’t sound even remotely like radiohead to me. It’s better!
How could anybody say this sounds like anything but Grizzly Bear?
There’s Radiohead influence all over this, but it’s still got that sweet Grizzly Bear stench all over it.
wtf are you even talking about?!
their talking about how much johnny greenwood wants to play on this record.
all reports indicate that he could join the band for their next record, but experts currently speculate the validity of these statements. More likely, we will see both bands break up and disperse amongst themselves into 3, maybe four, super-groups.
Thom yorke, however, will become a sort of musical mercenary as plans are for him and the rest of Atoms for Peace to record and tour with each new group ad nauseum.
Hope that helps!!! ;^P
seriously, not sure how this sounds like Radiohead at all. yeah yeah they toured together. they are definitely not riding their dick. jesus
Agree with Kerry
What an intense freak out! Just made my day/week/month!
Hell yeah, this is my jam! You guys killed it. Couldn’t me more f*#king pleased!!! Can’t wait for more.
This band is incapable of disappointing.
loving the new Grizz bear, great work guys!
Flawless, can’t wait to hear more! for now, on repeat.
This is a dream! Can’t wait for the rest of it! BRING IT
Thanks for making sweet, sweet sounds boys!

LOVE Grizzly Bear…
But eager to hear an Ed helm’d song.
The Droste with the most.
(i’m done)
Grizzly Bear rule all! Bringin that sophistication step!
I’ve concluded that if I ever have a dress-up dinner party, these guys, The Walkmen and Dirty Projectors are soundtracking. It may have to be NYE party with all their new albums. You’re all invited in advance.
Ed Helms?
Ed Droste. Saying how I want Ed to take lead vocals (helm the Grizzly Bear boat!) by using an Ed Helms pun. Both great people!
As a personal preference, I prefer Ed Droste on vocals. “Two Weeks”, “Ready, Able”, “Alligator” (Friend EP version), “Knife”, the rest of Yellow House. Love and respect Dan and all his talents, but Ed’d unique vocals are why I LOVE Grizzly Bear so much.
“raptor jesus, kick facts!”
Grizzly Bear was Ed’s solo project in the beginning.
I can’t bear these puns much longer.
They need to be tailored up a bit.
Oh, Ute!
Samesies :’)
Pfff, my above comment wasn’t supposed to be a reply to you, RJ! My b! But in keeping with the disorder, I’m posting this reply as a comment.
It’s new Grizzly Bear!
Comment Paaarrrttttyyyy!!!!
Bout to bust out my party hat!!! Which is actually a wig of a blowout!!!
GB does it again, if this is any indication how the album will sound, we’re in for another bang-star of an album.
Keep the team straight and keep it G.
I think I figured out the picture. Rossen is in sound booth marked “Do Not Enter”, recording a rushing river of guitar greatness. The engineer and rest of the band can only chuckle in amazement.
What if Daniel is TAKING the picture??
damn you’re probably right. logic and reason were temporarily blocked by my geek-out over the new song/tour.
I’m loving what’s coming in 2k12, pt.. 2. Also, Ed Droste is the sweetest man known to man. I wrote to GB once and he wrote back with the utmost sincerity.
when i started reading i thought “today we are all grizzly bears” was the album title and thought that it sounded awesome. They should name it that
Alright my name’s Ed, let’s go it’s beat time, it’s hip time, it’s Grizzly Bear time!
Or: I’m a Grizzly Bear, you’re a Grizzly Bear, we’re all Grizzly Bears!
listen to it drunk and blasting on a big ass speaker. perfect
or sober. sober is good too. with a big glass of scotch for sootheville
or maybe a little snacks while U jam. like some chips or a donut
Or maybe some neti pots.
Hi Kerry!
THIS SONG IS REALLY, REALLY, REALLY GOOD.
jk I’m not gonna lie, it’s amazing.
I know! IT’S SO AMAZING
grizzly bear , really lovely xx
Needs more Winnie, though.
picture yourself here for a moment: floating on that salt bed in Bolivia where the sky is reflected in the ground and you’re sitting there looking at your crystal clear reflection. and suddenly it all makes sense to you. you feel like you’re angellic and you realize you are in heaven on earth. everything is very perfect and serene. THEN A STORM COMES OVER AND EVERYONE IS VERY UPSET THAT YOU WENT TO BOLIVIA! and you’re like, “BUT IIII CAN’T HELP MYSELF!!!” and everyone kinda shrugs and soon forget that you were ever in Bolivia. and at the very end everything is very quiet. and suddenly Daniel comes out of no where with his guitar, picking it very quickly and it soothes a lot
then you fall asleep in the water and wake up
AND IT WAS ALL A DREAM
wow great story
so good
Goddamn Kerry, you’re such a poet :’)
here’s a pic if u have a hard time fantasizing
:”’)
In Bolivia they’d be OSO PARDO.
iTunes Preorder is up: http://itunes.apple.com/us/preorder/warp229/id533187860?utm_source=Grizzly+Bear+News&utm_campaign=11848a3e71-Tour_Tix_Album_Pre_Order_6_5_2012&utm_medium=email
Yesssssss
sweet
indeed
ER MER GERRRRRD, Y’ALL!
I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS ALBUM
Ohmygodohmygodohmygod
sooooo tight
oh yeah, and they recorded it live.
Chris bear is a genius, the drums really stand out on this track, very cool.
Why the low rating for me? I mentioned that Grizzly Bear is quality, and made a simple suggestion….
Sounds too close to bear trap, and metaphorically, is what it feels like when we should instead be listening to more of Sleeping Ute. Sorry, if I sound like an asshole, I need to live up to my name every now and then.
generally when one gets excited about the temper trap around here you’re likely to get downvoted. Thems the brakes!
I for one can’t wait until we get a 32k leak in July
The Bear has awaken. Hibernation is over.
i think of each album as a birth- the gestation period, waiting, wondering, hoping… this is going to be one helluva a beautiful baby.
somebody on a forum told me to do this but i like the song too so this is ‘ok’ with me
lol
Hot hot tune. Edward is the new Bieber. The Grizz must be big My Cousin Vinny fans.
This is da shit i wanted to hear.
speaking of sleeeping…
Woah, after listening to this song and then reading the comments I figured I must have done something wrong so I listened to the song again and, still same song and no mind-out-of-body experience. I only thought this was just good. Everyone else seems to have transcended time and space. :(((((((((
I’m with you. I was expecting my dick to immediately petrify but it’s not even half-mast.
I love this song, and I’m probably about to take a downvote, but it’s probably a top 100 all-time song for me if Michael McDonald is on vocals.
