Last year we debuted “Somebody’s Someone” from Retribution Gospel Choir’s self-titled debut, a dark, heavy collection released on Mark Kozelek’s Caldo Verde. Lest you forget: The Minnesota trio features Low guitarist/vocalist Alan Sparhawk, Low bassist Steve Garrington, and drummer/vocalist Eric Pollard. Their sound’s stripped down, but plenty muscular — at times they open into a crackling sort of stoner rock. Their second album and Sub Pop debut, simply titled 2, opens with “Hide It Away,” a song that finds the guys in more anthemic territory. They committed the sounds to tape in Duluth and had them remixed in L.A. by Matt Beckley, whose also worked with Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. No worries, it doesn’t sound too shiny: Unless you’re talking about the chilly shadows cast by the ice on the cover photo.

RGC is more important than your whiny, ten-speed, pomade jangle.

this, coming from someone who rides ten-speeds, and owns pomade. so, get over yourself.

Woah.. the big chorus kicks it into fist-pumping ’90s rock radio anthem territory. Might be a bit of a shock for Low fans!
