Here’s Laura Jane Grace’s first video interview since coming out as transgender, an MTV News discussion in which she talks about the decision to come out, the Rolling Stone story, her father’s reaction to the news and much more. The interview is divided into two parts — in four videos — the first set featuring Laura Jane alone and the second set featuring her with her Against Me! bandmates. Watch them below.
Check out our gallery from Against Me!’s recent NYC appearance, a show which included a cover of the Replacements’ “Androgynous” with Joan Jet.

i love the androgynous cover.. its one of the Replacements songs I find myself humming quite often over the years
This story and how it continues to be presented…it’s mind-blowing. It’s daunting and it’s beautiful.
Genuinely surprised this has been taken so well by fans and most everyone else. Makes me happy that views on stuff like this do change for the better.
Seconded. The general reaction to this news is so pleasantly surprising. I honestly have never been so beautifully mind-fucked in recent years.
I would advise not reading the YouTube comments on old Against Me! videos. Luckily fans are doing a fairly good job of down-voting transphobic comments into oblivion, but I’ve still seen some pretty hateful stuff.
It’s so awesome to hear the band so easily refer to Laura as “her” or “she,” alongside hear that Laura’s parents have been really supportive. This is such a great story not about just music, but humanity. Also, on Against Me! — Not only has Laura’s story obviously set her free, but I think the fact that the band has no major label A&R person and b.s. to deal with these days has gave them the freedom to be punk as fuck again. I like the direction all of them are heading in.
Great, candid, interview. But everytime they put that overeager interviewer on camera I just wanted to punch him in his stupid face.

Thanks Mikey!
You da man!
I have met people who have had sex-changes and they’re not happy with themselves. If you can’t be happy with who you are than all the alcohol, drugs, and doctors in this world can’t save you. Tom Gabel, you need to free your self from this alternate form of self mutilation.
