Up top is the just-revealed cover of Animal Collective’s new one, Centipede Hz, and it’s a cover that presumably just as weird as the new material, where a decaying set of Rolling Stones lips gives away to a spectral projection of the band’s members. My takeaway: it’s a shocking betrayal to the Magic Eye-type stuff of the past. Centipede Hz is out 9/4 on Domino.

Not like AnCo to try something different ey??
thats all-together very ugly.
then it’s a good thing we don’t listen to an album cover! sheesh.
I do.
Does it sound as nu-metal as it looks?
The Kid A of Animal Collective albums?
This cover Hz to look at.
Alright, show’s over folks. Good night!
I’ve always wondered what the Rocky Horror Picture Show would look like on acid…
this is gloriously bad. i love it.
In case anybody’s interested, a fan made a pastel-tinged alternative to the cover and, for me, it’s far easier to swallow than the real thing:
The funny part is that he/she made it in anticipation of see the actual album art. Sad.
ya that actually looks really cool
Looks like a snapshot from an early 90s MTV commercial.
Man everybody’s been bit by the retro bug. It looks like Max Headroom swallowing someone’s Blade Runner.
They would have been better off trying a No Limit Records circa 1999 album cover motif, basically.
What, you guys are trying to tell us every member of the band has limp lip? NOOOOOOOO!
And “NOOOOOOOO!” as in “NO, I’m not going to send you guys hot dogs in the mail and shit cus I know in reality you’re probably just faking. What the FUCK!”
The Rolling Stone lips are actually based off of an image of the Hindu goddess Kali, goddess of everlasting energy.
… Not a single obligatory Human Centipede reference?
These guys seem pretty wacky to me.
covers not bad- just as wild as the other promotional stuff they been using for this album- ugly, yes- but i think the sounds on this will make sense with the art- im sure it will be a wonderfully absurd release
In a way this kind of reminds me of something U2 would do circa Zooropa.
Looks like my aunt’s butthole.
So you know what your aunt’s butthole looks like?
I’ve been looking forward to a new Orgy album.
