Fans of Soundgarden circa that press shot had a rough last decade. Yes I’m thinking Audioslave, but in particular it’s the tail end of the ’00s that hurt the most, thanks to Chris Cornell’s bizarre nosedive to a place where not even trenchant Trent Reznor zings could paint the singer in a light as silly as his Timbaland collabs did. But after that bottoming out, the sleek and soulless Jesus Christ poseur began the redemptive process, reliving some glory days with a Temple Of The Dog reunion which itself came months after the rest of his mates had an impropmtu reunion their own. And all of that was just the foreplay leading up to a very special/financially inevitable Chris Cornell New Year’s tweet: “The 12 year break is over … Knights of the Soundtable ride again!” Which is a super cool way to say Soundgarden, one of the grunge era’s heaviest, most distinguished, and influential acts is reuniting this year. And making a lot of money doing it.

Standing in the way of the band collecting all the festival checks is Matt Cameron, who’s spent the last decade as Pearl Jam’s drummer and has PJ tour commitments for this year already, but still, Billboard reports the band is weighing some big-time offers from festivals around the world. You can keep updated by signing up at soundgardenworld.com, or by keeping your eyes out for impromptu warm-up reunions at your local Cinnabon.

Well crud, too bad they didn’t announce before Christmas; I would have had something to talk to my Dad about.

Chirs Cornell’s solo output sounds like the Kings of Leon.
They should have broken up after Badmotorfinger.
    This is pretty lame.
Now I have to hear everyone at my office talk about this.

Chris Cornell can never undo what he has done. He can never make it go away. No matter how many times he washes himself, he will always smell like Timbaland. Why did you do it Chris. Why did you do it man. T_T

  7. Too bad no one likes these guys anymore.

  8. If they actually pull this through, i might actually be able to forgive him for that mess he made.

  9. this site and trent reznor have tried in vain to ruin all my great memories of this band, but sorry dudes, this is awesome and nothing can take badmotorfinger away from me

    nothing

  10. I waited so long for this news! Jesus-christ-pose baby!!

  11. all the mediocre alt.rock and Timba-lame solo output of this band’s frontman hasn’t changed the fact that his greasy yowl has still got it… whatever it is.

As for me, all the wrongs of the past 12 years can be forgiven with two simple words: Spoon. Man. I’m still together with that plan.

maybe they can play alongside the “new” alice in chains, billy corgan’s new smashing pumpkins and everyone will realize why trying to recreate the 90s is a terrible idea. in ’06 everyone thought tool, pearl jam & red hot chili peppers were going to do it, but once the albums came out, even their die hard fans were disappointed.
and seriously what can soundgarden do at this point except tarnish their good moments they had. will chris cornell ever stop shitting on whatever decent music he once made

  13. Soundgarden, one of my fav bands in high school, great to see their original line-up is back together.
