“The best song wasn’t the single…” is something of a mantra here, a quotable bit in a week where Frank Ocean has been particularly quotable. The ascendant R&B star turned folk hero follows up this week’s well circulated, poetic, brave must-read missive with a cut from his forthcoming LP Channel Orange. It’s called “Sweet Life,” it is a buttery funk jam for taking pills by pools, and it’s a download here:
Channel Orange is out 7/17 via Def Jam.

Glad this track is so good, otherwise I might be tempted to make some lame comment like “gayest new track” or some bullshit like that.
I think this is better than anything on Nostalgia/Ultra and I liked Nostalgia/Ultra.
Man, Frankie is brilliant. This is the kind of music I get down to. I’m loving this!
Reminds of Thundercat, in all of the good ways. (As if there were any other)
This is fan-fucking-tastic.
Apparently Pharrell had a hand co-producing this, making this the best thing Pharrell has produced since…
…Solange’s “I Decided” (2008).
This reminds me a lot like Stevie Wonder (I believe Pitchfork agrees with me). Super just laid back but still badass in all the right ways.
This boys gonna blow up once Channel releases. The albums already an 8 and we’ve only heard 2 tracks!
Instant addition to every summer mix
I think he is channeling a bit of Lauryn here. This is the sweetest song since Sweetest Thing
