The amazing new video(s) from OFF! are a note-perfect flashback to ’80s VHS cassettes — not just the programming you might find on those cassettes (in this case, a local talk show and a Jazzercise video, primarily), but their grainy, low-resolution textures and their oft-incomplete contents, the result of one show being taped over dozen of others. The “Borrow And Bomb” segment of this clip features Dave Foley as the clueless host of Teen Talk, discussing with a group of bored adolescents the phenomenon called “punk rock.” It’s an eerily accurate tribute to an actual ’80s talk show hosted by San Fernando Valley high school teacher Joe Feinstein. Of course the music is fucking great. It’s one of the best things I’ve seen in forever, really. Check out the OFF! vid, and below that, the real Teen Talk segment on which the “Borrow And Bomb” clip is based.
