Canadian folk singer/songwriter Kate McGarrigle, known best as one half of the McGarrigle Sisters, succumbed to cancer last night in her Montreal home surrounded by her sisters Jane and Anna and her children Rufus and Martha Wainwright. She was 63.

Dammit. Just last night I saw the episode of Elvis Costello’s Spectacle where she sings with Rufus & Elvis. Sad news.
Saw The Swell Season last night. Glen and Colm dedicated a bunch of songs to her last night. It was beautiful.
I don’t know how I missed this yesterday. Such sad news. I agree with the first comment – the world has been taking far too many good people lately.
I saw Kate and Anna perform a couple of Christmas’s ago in Halifax NS. Was such a great show. She will be missed.
