The Gaslight Anthem’s new album Handwritten is out tomorrow, and the band has already unveiled a video for first single “45.” That clip was about as simple as it comes: Just the band playing for an extremely amped crowd in a Jersey club. But director Kevin Slack’s new video for the album’s title track has a decidedly more conceptual bent: It’s an incredibly emo “Jukebox Hero” period piece. Watch it below, and thanks to Michael_ for the tip.

great song and great video
still trying to wrap myself around the album in its entirety – it’s no 59 sound, that’s for sure – but like all gaslight albums there are plenty of bright spots to latch onto
“howl” is a fuckin banger
Love the song, love the video, love the album. Gonna go buy it tomorrow.

Haven’t heard the album yet but I’m stoked. I don’t get why everyone’s so obsessed with this notion that 59 Sound is so far and away their best album, though. Or rather I guess I get it but don’t agree. There’s some great songs on there but it’s a bit same-y as a whole and the the songwriting obsession with early-Springsteen type character names and old time-y cliches got a bit tired sometimes. I know I’m in the minority, but American Slang is a better album to me, and “Diamond Church Street Choir” edges out “Great Expectations” as my favorite song.
