From naming stages and tents Which, What, This, That, and Other so that asking for directions can’t help but become a stoned Abbot & Costello routine, to unveiling its lineup via a protracted runup of internet-published “clues,” to just generally seeing what happens when hipsters and hippies are forced to be unshowered together on a farm for three days, Bonnaroo’s always run their festival with an eye toward having fun with the form and taking the piss — while also being the most high profile of the “totally immersive” fests (case in point: seeing Kanye at 5AM, which would happen nowhere else on earth). This year, though, the fest is going even further with having fun with the form or the protracted-lineup-reveal situation and the etc.: Bonnaroo’s announcing their lineup over a twelve hour period today, on MySpace and Twitter, from 12PM to 12AM. Neat! I mean, if you like your lineups piecemeal, this is great news. You might even want to buy tickets the second they go on sale, at noon today. If you like knowing who is playing all at once, come back tonight. Either way we’ll be updating this post with the lineup as it’s announced.

Daryl Hall and Chromeo will be playing together at bonnaroo this year…BONNACONFIRMED!!

  2. carl  |   Posted on Feb 9th

this line-up is (so far) the biggest music fail of the year.

    • Sandra  |   Posted on Feb 9th

can we stop with the dumb meme whatever shit and use the correct noun “failure”?

  3. Macca? Simon?

  4. No thanks, Coachella in 2010 for me!

  5. Oh man, Weezer. Now I HAVE to go.

  6. Hoping The Strokes make it on this year’s list – they did say festival appearances this year and no Coachella, no Pitchfork (yet at least) so there’s hope!

  7. Avett Brothers are confirmed, dudes! Also Medeski Martin & Wood. Bonnaroo’s twitter is the best way to do it, I’d say…

  8. saulgood  |   Posted on Feb 9th

This lineup is sad, now I’m gonna have to go to Coachella somehow.

  9. Good lord, people. Relax. 8 bands out of about 100 have been announced. And the only reason they let Flaming Lips & Phoneix out this early is ’cause they’ve already been leaked.

Patience is a virtue my friends. (and yeah, weezer… yikes).

  10. gblizx  |   Posted on Feb 9th

The lineup announcement on myspace is the most annoying thing ever. Why not just post the bands in a list? It’s making me not want to go. I’m seriously just going to buy a Coachella ticket. Myspace?, Weezer?, a teasing bald catoon hessian? Roo is going lame.

  11. Not very impressive. Coachella looks more promising at least.

  12. completely. The only band that i have interest in seeing out of the ‘roo line-up thus far is the xx and they aren’t 250 bonez.

  13. Yeah, it’s been a bit underwhelming, but maybe they’re saving the big names for the end. The MySpace rollout they’re doing would’ve been better if it wasn’t so anti-climactic (wait five minutes, then find out its some band that you’ve never heard of)

  14. Erika  |   Posted on Feb 9th

Please wait till the FULL lineup is out before you start bashing Bonnaroo for Coachella. Geez, its only been like 10 bands listed so far!

  15. Walter Peck  |   Posted on Feb 9th

Obviously should have gone with BONFIRMATIONS

  16. blacksheep  |   Posted on Feb 9th

I sort of like the way they are announcing it throughout the day. It gives me something to check every five minutes at work. I have only gone to ACL and Pitchfork in the past, so how do Coachella and Bonnaroo usually compare to each other? Are they around the same price?

  17. Joe  |   Posted on Feb 9th

    The National! Woot

  18. d@ve  |   Posted on Feb 9th

    weak..

  19. Montell Williams  |   Posted on Feb 9th

Mark my words. Pavement. I guarantee it;)

  20. Lee  |   Posted on Feb 9th

If the bands that are rumored actually play, Sasquach is going to be the winner this year.

Besides the Columbia Gorge is the best summer venue in the nation:

  21. of Montreal is putting out a record and not playing the summer festivals?! I don’t know what to believe anymore.

  22. Jay-Z and Nas will share a stage at some point during this festival. I’d bet anything on it.

  23. Pavement for sure, right?
The only other rumours I’ve heard are the Pixies and Why?…but I bought my ticket last week anyways.
    Who else might be there??

  24. Lee  |   Posted on Feb 9th

Well the line-up is going to be released at a concert at the Croc with Surfer Blood, Atlas Sounds and Fresh Espresso next monday…..rumors on the street are headliners might be the pixies, modest mouse and sondgarden with Pavement already being confirmed…..

  25. faan  |   Posted on Feb 9th

    so far coachella > bonnaroo

  26. isbyn  |   Posted on Feb 9th

this line-up is pretty weak tahts for sure, but ill probably still go to at least see the flips do dark side of the moon.

  27. yo  |   Posted on Feb 10th

wow, coachella is way better than this! whoever disagrees probably already bought a ticket to bonnaroo

  28. Chillwinston  |   Posted on Feb 10th

Sasquatch 2010 lineup looks a lot like Lollapalooza 2009 lineup. Also this Roo lineup does look weak. I’m out east so I can’t wait for Lolla and APW lineup.

  29. C  |   Posted on Feb 10th

So disappointing. The list of upper-tiered acts is completely underwhelming given the number of possibilities available to them this year, more than ever; and the undercard is barely half as good as Coachella’s, mostly because of the same bands but thrown in with a lot of extra novelty bullshit that looks a lot better on paper than on stage. It’s easy to see why there were so few confirmation leaks, there was nothing to leak in the first place.

  30. Worst Bonnaroo lineup ever. Stevie Wonder, Jay-Z, and LCD Soundsystem are the only headliner I have any interest in seeing. Kings of Leon and Dave Matthews at the top of the bill, I saw Kings of Leon at a 4:00 show a couple of years ago there, and that was when they were good. It seems like they have completely abandoned the jam band fans who made the festival and, in my opinion, they don’t have enough “inide” acts to justify a $280 ticket when they’ll probably be playing 70 minute sets all at the same time. I really think this may be a disaster for the festival. Are Against Me and Dropkick Murphy fans going to want to camp out for three days and pay a ton of money? Unless they change course in the next few years I am Bonnathrough.

  31. mark  |   Posted on Feb 10th

So comically awesome that people can look at a lineup with Stevie Wonder, Jeff Beck, Jay-Z, Weezer, Phoenix, Norah Jones, The Black Keys, Jay Electronica, GWAR, Daryl Hall/Chromeo, The Melvins, Medeski Martin & Wood, Steve Martin, Les Claypool, Chris Thile, The National, Tenacious D, John Fucking Fogarty, and a bizillion others….and they’re like, “Meh, FAIL.”

    • O.W.A Giveaway  |   Posted on Feb 10th

Actually, just reading that list out loud that you wrote makes me physically sick. I wouldn’t pay three dollars to see this festival. What a load of shit.

      • mark  |   Posted on Feb 10th

        hahahahha!!!

stevie wonder = load of shit

        • mark, you should first listen to Stevie Wonder’s ‘Music In My Mind’, ‘Talking Book’, ‘Innervisions’, ‘Fufillingness’ First Finale’ & ‘Songs In The Key Of Life’ then come back and tell me if Stevie = load of shit.

    • Everything’s relative. It’s not “meh, FAIL” in itself necessarily, but I think it’s easy to call Bonnaroo 2010 lackluster when compared to Bonnaroo’s past lineups and what other festivals have to offer. Of course there are quite a few good artists in there… but there’s a lot of crap too, and with the exception of Stevie Wonder the headliners are just not that impressive. Coachella already got Jay-Z, and the rest of their top tier acts blow Dave Matthews Band and Kings of Leon out of the water. If you’d rather see them over Gorillaz, Pavement, and Thom Yorke, that’s cool, but I think most people would disagree. Hell, I don’t even like Muse and I’d take them over DMB and KoL in a heartbeat.

And as for the price, it’s really not such a bargain when you consider the fact that you could spend roughly the same amount and see a shitload of awesome bands at nearly any major festival you choose. It’s only a bargain if they’re offering a better product or a better price, and I don’t see how Bonnaroo is doing either. I’m not doing any festivals this summer (unfortunately), but if I was I would look elsewhere.

  32. mark  |   Posted on Feb 10th

Also, for a quick dose of perspective…there’s an Eric Clapton/Jeff Beck concert at MSG next weekend and tickets for this one 3 hour (maybe) show are about the same price as a Bonnaroo ticket.

  33. Bilbo  |   Posted on Feb 10th

    WEAK. ASS. SHIT.

Some peeps tryin’ to convince themselves otherwise… have fun!

  34. shutup  |   Posted on Feb 10th

There’s a thousand ways to get a free ticket to this if you are smart and do a little research. And its fun taking a road trip to tennessee and camping with friends even if there arent a ton of bands you like. If this has become sooo mainstream that you cant even have a good time, you need to get over yourself.

  35. chris  |   Posted on Feb 11th

are you people retarded??? this lineup is f’ing amazing. go kill yourselves. i’ll be there rockin in all my naked glory biiitchesss!

  36. Chromeo and Hall will be amazing. I hope they do a mash up.

  37. Bonnaroo and Coachella are featuring many of the same bands. I don’t think I could pledge allegiance to one over the other.

  38. jr jerk   |   Posted on Feb 12th

r uens kidding me STEVE MARTIN is playin! and dr D O G.
and stevie wonder is a treasure, some people threw away the map, others never found the way —————————– but those of us who have are lives are richer for it! i might actually go to this sweltering heat feast of hot bodies and blistering sun — if i had like 230,000 kalbos of space cash on hand

  39. stan  |   Posted on Feb 12th

well to me, it seems like the people that are bashing this line-up are pretty spoiled. i’d be happy to see half of these artists for that price.

  40. csnark  |   Posted on Feb 12th

Lolla for the win folks – believe that!

  41. LCD soundsystem should play on a stage the entire time while Kings of leon get their stage washed out by the sounds of silver. Would be great to hear some newer stuff by those guys. This really isn’t that bad, Dr. dog, Flaming lips, the dodos, black keys, phoenix, and whoever mentioned stevie wonder sucks, the guy’s got more talent in his left nut then alot of the musicians playing now days.

  42. Suzy Creamcheese  |   Posted on Feb 13th

    Man…
    music sucks!

  43. Pandaman  |   Posted on Feb 13th

    we can’t be silent, cause…

  44. Is Dave Matthews not doing Bonnaroo anymore? Or is Stereogum just absolutely hilarious and didn’t mention anything about him?

  45. Bonnapoo  |   Posted on Feb 14th

    Yawn

  46. Damn! I don’t know why people think this lineup is boring, I just bought Coachella tickets, and I’m jealous because The National aren’t playing.

  47. TweakOut  |   Posted on Feb 15th

with a few exceptions, weak sauce man.

  48. Sasquatch line-up: http://bit.ly/bHW6SM

    Better.

  49. marko  |   Posted on Feb 16th

Good lord, Sasquatch just pwned Bonnaroo with like only 25 bands. Now that the full lineup is released, you can really see how pathetic and uninspired roo’s line up is. Very crappy Bonnaroo, very crappy.

  50. sam  |   Posted on Feb 16th

Lolla (probably) > Sasquatch > Coachella > Pitchfork > ACL (probably) > BONNAROO!

Bonnaroo’s line up is the worst it’s ever produced. it’s lone highlight (Stevie Wonder) isn’t even all that great these days. I saw Stevie last year and it was hella boring… and I love Stevie.

  51. Is Paul Simon playing this thing?
