With Scott Weiland out the door and on STP tour, Slash & friends are reportedly going to replace Mr. Reliable with Royston Langdon, the dork who fronted the English band Spacehog. They had a hit with the “In The Meantime” that wasn’t by Helmet. More impressive? He bagged Liv Tyler (until she left him recently). Read more about his possible new VR role here.

They’d be gaining a far superior singer who has no mainstream appeal and is from a band that would otherwise be looking to tour with other ’90s where-are-they-nows. I’m totally interested to see if this goes anywhere at all.

Could be totally neat if they ever covered “In The Meantime” just to hear Slash do that guitar hook ;)

    what

I actually like the three Spacehog albums quite a bit… they’re up there with Possum Dixon and Harvey Danger as a band from that era that was sort of unfairly written off. This has some potential to be moderately more interesting than the old Velvet Revolver stuff, which was imho awful.

Yeah, it’s been way too long since I listened to that stuff, but from what I remember Spacehog and Harvey Danger were both really well received back then–not just because they each had one radio hit. They definitely weren’t like the other cheesy post grunge groups from that time. Also that deconstructive end of “In the Meantime” is totally Axel Rose style, so I think he’ll blend in nicely.

Wow… the guy from Spacehog is going to join Velvet Revolver? It’s exciting to see two shitty 90s has-been bands joining forces like a one-hit-wonder corporate rock Voltron. I’m sure they’ll reach entirely new heights of suck.

what about the guy from the toadies? Wouldn’t that be killer? Anyone? sigh.
