Think Ghostface turned RZA on to Vampire Weekend? Probably. According to Anthem Magazine (via P4K), who talked to co-director Emmett Malloy (younger brother Brendan also directs), Ezra Koening came up with the “Giving Up The Gun” video’s tennis match concept on his own. RZA plays ref, Lil Jon is a tennis coach, and Gyllenhaal and Jonas are competitors. Malloy mentioned that band friend “Jenny,” who looks like the same Jenny from their “Oxford Comma” video, stars. The Malloys also have White Stripes and Oasis documentaries under their belts, as well as videos for the Jonas Brothers and Cold War Kids. Keep eyes peeled for this one tomorrow. Nice photo, dudes.

Any idea what song the video is for?
Pitchfork says its for “giving up the gun”
Omg! Joe Jonas! I hope they cast Hannah Montana for their next video.
In all seriousness, I like Contra…but if they’ve entered a realm of famous where mingling with Disney children is the norm, I will stop paying attention.
I don’t think they’re “hanging out with Disney children” as much as they thought it’d be fun to do a music video with a bunch of random famous people playing tennis. Sometimes silly and ridiculous is just silly and ridiculous. I don’t think this idea was hatching in a Disney boardroom; I wouldn’t worry.
Good point…I guess I was just being a bitter old woman shaking my fist at the youngsters and their damn music:)
Who cares? they could do a video with minney mouse and ashley tisdale and i would still be excited for more vampire weekend. i don’t think VW will gain many hard core rap fans just cus the rza is in their video.
but on a serious tip, the wu-tang clan ain’t nothin to fuck with.
I think any collaboration with RZA would be awesome. I guess I just have a bad taste in my mouth regarding Disney tweens due to my poorly matched college roommates listening to their music constantly. But of course if you or anyone else is into that shit than this is good news.
Added the song title — thanks!
I’m sorry but the only thing that comes to mind when I read this is: XD . Now, if you excuse my 15 year old vocabulary span, the video seems like fun. It seems random and obscure and I like it.
Great VW is going to bring in the tweens. Look for their album to be number 1 again in the coming weeks.
Oh well. At least they’re playing tennis.
This seems like it’s going to be a pretty gold video, regardless of who’s in it.
This is why I love this band.
I’m happy to see one of the better bands out getting their dues…but I cringe when I hear Joe Jonas involved.
Have no fear, Dood. The video is ace. I don’t care if you’re 15, 30, or even 40, you’re going to love it when it hits the net in a few days.
I LOVE Vampire Weekend, but Joe Jonas is a DOUCHE to the extreme! I don’t approve. Still can’t wait for the video though!
ok, how is he a douche bag?! seriously. he’s hot and nice. you’re an ass.
“Giving Up The Gun”, huh? I wish they’d do a video for a different track. I wouldn’t mind seeing a video for “Diplomat’s Son”.
Does anyone else think that this song sounds like a Discovery song that didn’t make it on that album.

Uhhh, Joe isn’t just a Jonas Brother or remotely a Disney puppet. He’s actually legitimately awesome. You people have no clue what you’re talking about. Glad he’s randomly included, for laffs or whatever.
Stereogum’s newest journalist had to be told by a commentor what song the video was for…didn’t she just repost this from Pitchfork in the first place?
burnnnnnn
I love the way that in this Anthem interview, Malloy says of VW, “those poor guys. I don’t think they get a minute to themselves.” Awwww. It’s tough being one of the biggest bands on the planet. Please – they can say no to things. They choose to not take their foot off the gas.
