Grizzly Bear on Fallon

Tomorrow, Grizzly Bear release their dizzily complex, already-loved new album Shields. And on Friday night, the band stopped by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and played “Sleeping Ute,” the album’s first single and opening track. It was fun to see Daniel Rossen take the lead on a Grizz TV appearance, and to watch the band fit the song’s many, many interlocking parts together. Also, nice shot of the touring keyboardist scratching his ear. Watch the video below.

Shields is ute 9/18 on Warp.

  1. Such a good performance. Drums sound amazing.

  2. Just a ton of shit going on with this song and it’s really evident when you watch them play it live. Well done.
It’s probably the harmonies and the MOOG but I’m getting beach boys vibes off these bros – and I fux wit it.

  3. The new Levis collection looks really great!

  4. Saw them perform last night at the Tennessee Theatre, my first time seeing them since their tour with TV On The Radio in 2006. Their new stage design/light show is incredible. Vocals were spot-on as always and they had many magical moments of dynamic range. Their banter with the crowd was pretty engaging as well. The new songs sounded pretty good, but Lullaby was still the highlight for me.

    • Hmm, I made it sound like the new songs were average. They were really good. These guys are pros. It’s just that the explosive nature of ‘Lullaby’ coupled with the synchronized lights and resounding bass (from the touring keyboardist?) was jaw dropping.

I usually like to familiarize as much as possible with a band’s latest release before seeing them live, but it was rewarding to experience the new songs live.

  5. Love that Ed doesn’t play his guitar at all but still drops his plectrum :) Poor fella! His vocal at the end though…WOW!
