Montreal’s big buzz band did a sweet set on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic yesterday, reworking some of their more bombastic funereal anthems into gentle, chugging ballads. Highlights included a Magnetic Fields cover…
The Arcade Fire – “Born On A Train”
And this catchy new tune…
The Arcade Fire – “Intervention”

Thanks Anna for the heads up!

%s1 / %s2

the “new song” intervention might be the best thing they’ve done yet. it’s more poppy. i liked it.
This is awesome stuff! If anyone can capture this whole show (and host) on mp3, you would be my personal savior.
the entire show can be viewed here:

and an FM copy will be posted soon.
check back on http://www.arcadefire.net as it will be posted there as soon as it’s up on one of the live music torrent sites.

Awesome—thanks!
enough about the arcade fire. PLEASE!!!!
watched this last nite. thanx for the mp3 post.
So, “Intervention” was alright, but that MagFie cover…? Um, does the ArcFi guy always sound like that? (Clearly not from “Intervention”, but still, I didn’t think I’d ever hear someone that made Merritt sound, um, *dulcet*. And that’s coming from a MagFie fan.)
I’ve been wondering about ArcFi (numerous posts at the ‘Gum, general critical acclaim), and I gotta say, these listens disappointed me.
But that’s me.
Wonderful news and a wonderful post.
Also, on my blog I’ve got a link to the hosted copy of Colin Meloy Sings Morrissey as provided by a member of the Decemberists’ forum.
Win’s voice is shot, as he’s sick currently, so no, he sounds a lot better live normally.
I have a question. I have never heard this band and was just wondering what music genre they are considered, along with Interpol, Death Cab for Cutie, etc??? Im not big on new music as I am an old soul with old school rock taste. Anyone wanna tell me?
THANK YOU!
i saw them on saturday and died a little death. now i’ll relive it in my desk chair.
I saw them play the night before at the Troubadour. The set was incredible, and despite being sick and tired, they came back out for a two song encore. The show didn’t end until almost one- I’m impressed they even made it to the early morning show on kcrw.
Those Canadians are troopers. Or are they Mounties?
while they hail from Montreal, Win is a Texan
Like chocolate, you can never have too much Arcade Fire. Intervention is fantastic, nice to hear a new tune after listening to Funeral probably over 100 times now.
saw them at the Troubadour this weekend…they were amazing, but good god they are some ugly mofos
Jeffk, thanks for clearing that up. So I should give them another shot, no?
Why did he change the verse order of the MF song?
saw the show in san diego last night. pure madness! they are truly the best live performers i’ve ever encountered.
bradley, you rock!
trail of dead…..now THAT’S a bunch of ugly mofos!!! saw them do karaoke at m-theory last friday. funny looking bunch. great musicians though! between will/win of arcade fire, and the trail of dead crew, i’m beginning to think texas isn’t entirely evil.
wow i saw them in SF on friday and he didnt sound hoarse at all. poor Win. love the new song. they played it friday too, so rad..
here’s some pix from the show http://www.littlepants.com/music/arcadefire.html
Intervention was played last fall a couple times as well, it’s changed a bit though.
awesome, i was looking for something like this. “intervention” is cool, but they have another new tune called “burning bridges breaking hearts” which is even better.
i always thought “born on a train” was an “american traditional”, not a mf original. can anyone verify this?
It’s a Merritt original – although it’s on Charm of the Highway Strip, which is the MF’s “country” record, and may have led to the confusion. If the American songbook includes songs about one night stands with the philandering undead, I may have to reexamine my definition on the term “traditional.”
They asked us in the crowd on Sunday’s Troubadour show “why aren’t you as rowdy as Saturday’s show?”… and it was either:
a) We were an appreciative crowd
b) We were in awe!
great show. And Final Fantasy was great too.
I like his voice like this for this type of performace. It makes those songs so much more striking. They were both great, when they show up on shuffle I’ll listen to the whole thing.
This band just plains stinks. When will you backpack
Armstrong bracelet wearing dorks realize this?
i love his voice right now.
the phlegmy-ness is a nice touch.
Who is this band? Why are they here?
The most brilliant band to come on the scene for a long time. The live sessions (KCRW, Cambridge, Funeral album…) just confirm their magic as a band, musicians and someting really special in a world of mediocrity and one-hit-wonder bands…
Truely inspiring and mind blowing. I wish there were more like them….
503617: Hey, does anyone know where I can find a list of gas stations with low prices in my area?
I can?t believe it, my co-worker just bought a car for $24334. Isn?t that crazy
