Brazilica is the one that sounds like a poor attempt at stealing a Tropicalia sample and building a really shitting song around it. Man this album is just sad…do you think his label said to him “Hey Ya” is a hit do something like that”..and then he comes up with…”Hell Yeah”!!! What a genius!

YES! will farrel on cowbell…finally that talented man has busted right into the indie scene!!!!

next: blue oyster cult?come feel the reaper

  3. kenny  |   Posted on Jan 21st, 2005

i don’t think all the tracks that leaked are on the album. hope brazilica is on there somewhere though, thats the best one!

  4. Grimmone  |   Posted on Jan 21st, 2005

Will Farell has a very Ricky Martinesque outfit on doesn’t he?

I wonder which one of these songs are Beck’s ode to Scientology.

  5. thunderpeel  |   Posted on Jan 21st, 2005

brazilica is probably ‘missing.’ ‘someone’s always missing something’ goes the chorus right? and all the guero hating web freaks need to chill.

  6. Dirk  |   Posted on Jan 21st, 2005

Beck looks like Dana Carvey in that photo.

  7. i suppose it would be too much to ask for if the song black tambourine in some way concerned the old pre-velocity girl band.

  8. Yale Bloor  |   Posted on Jan 21st, 2005

I think Ted Nugent plays guitar on Stone Junkie and co wrote several songs, I think Axl produced it and it sounds like Slash on the tamborine, wow this ROCKS!!!! Beck is really going outside the box on this one.. “Beck the original snake skin cowboy” hell yea…Beck the new LA madman..just look at him holding that guitar down low, punching out those power cords…I can almost feel the feedback!!!! How long till him and Drew Barrymore are holed up at the Sunset Hyatt??? Keep us posted GUMMER…

  9. kinda hope Brazilica isn’t on the final to be honest. just a very boring song.

i’m not a “guero” hater, but i can’t help but admitting i am definitely not overly impressed w/ the early mix/versions of this record. holding out hope that the final is a lot better.

  10. so now everyone’s a music critic?

  11. dunno if that was in response to me, but if so, no, just know what i like and don’t like. i still think Beck’s a genius, regardless of my thoughts on the upcoming album :)

not saying others might not like it, but i’d consider myself a pretty huge Beck fan, and i was not too excited after even 4-5 listens of the leaked tracks, save for 3 or 4 songs really.

if you dig it tho, great :)

  12. and_then  |   Posted on Jan 21st, 2005

I’ve read that the ‘leaked’ tracks are not even the final versions, so I wouldn’t think there’d be any point to renaming the tracks to match up to the official release.

  13. Yale Bloor  |   Posted on Jan 21st, 2005

Beck is god – Nugent = jesus

  14. hey solace, the comment was to people in general. i know many beck fans who are gushing over it. i know many who are so-so. like you said, to each his/her own. i don’t think there is any drastic difference in quality of music. it’s unmistakably beck, pure and simple.

  15. also, it’s unfair to judge songs before they are finished. that’s why leaks are bad.

  16. gotcha that’s cool.

i think for me, while i really enjoy the return to the funkier beck (as much as i grew to love Sea Change), even the more uptempo tracks from the leaked stuff, are kinda slower, more mid-tempo. nothing w/ the in-your fance, faster tempo, of say Devil’s Haircut, etc. it’s definitely not an album that’s going to knock anyone (even the biggest Beck fan), on their ass in one spin imo. but as i’ve discovered, the best albums are usually the ones that take a while to grow on ya :)

i don’t think it’s bad by any means, i just was hoping for a bit more, after him talking up how this will be his big “indie rock record” so to speak.

i’ve kinda put it away now until the real thing leaks, hoping that one hits me a bit more than the leaked stuff at least ;)

  17. in-your fance? how about face, jackass.

  18. yeah totally. slow and steady wins the race.

  19. Zelda  |   Posted on Jan 21st, 2005

God how do I love the Will Ferrell Best Of SNL DVD. MORE COWBELL!

  20. //so now everyone’s a music critic?//

    well, duh.

some of us make money, some don’t…but anyone with an opinion can be a critic.

keep in mind i’m NOT claiming anyone with an opinion can make a GOOD critic, but…

  21. hmmmm  |   Posted on Jan 21st, 2005

I’m going to take a wild stab and say that E-pro from the leaked bootleg is Rental Car on the real album.

    Did I win?

  22. Rocky  |   Posted on Jan 21st, 2005

    E-Pro
    Que Onda Guero
    Girl= Summer Girl
    Missing= Brazilica
    Black Tambourine
    Earthquake Weather
Hell Yes= Hell Yeah – Duh
    Broken Drum= ?
    Scarecrow
    Go It Alone
    Farewell Ride= ?
    Rental Car= Stone Junkie
    Emergency Exit= Nazarene

I guessing based on lyrics & info provided at http://www.whiskeyclone.net/ghost/indexsrc.html

  23. will ferrell or david hasselhoff? 0_o.

  24. _donde_estan_los_gueros_?

  25. brent_D  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2005

“brazilica” is certainly “missing”. (+ is stunningly awesome.) “broken drum” is/was “track 12/outer space”? The opening line. “Stone Junkie” is definitely “Rental Car”, as he says that in the song repeatedly. And oh my god is that a better song title.

  26. Julia  |   Posted on Jan 22nd, 2005

why am i the only person to realize that it’s “don’t fear the reaper” and not “come feel the reaper.” if you’re going to make musical allusions, at least get them right.

beck is beck. he does what he wants. leave it at that.

  27. holy crap, look at beck’s sleeves…how can he move his fingers across the fretboard? it’s like try to play guitar with a sock on your hand!

  28. I don’t think Beck has ever been told what to do from his record company and if you consider that the leaked tracks are only demos- then Guero is going to be brilliant. Also, some people have criticised the fact that Beck has revisited Midnite Vultures, Mutations and Odelay, but what other artist can blend rock, folk, hip hop, funk and electronica so successfully?

  29. Grimmone  |   Posted on Jan 25th, 2005

Odalay was pretty genius. I couldn’t get into Midnite Vultures or Mutations.

Beck triva here: His mom was one of the dancers in Phantom of the Paradise.

  35. Joe Ball  |   Posted on Jan 29th, 2005

Idk I’ve sampled some of this stuff and I think its great…idk I’ve loved beck from Mellow Gold to Sea Change….I was a little dissapointed with Mutations but I thought it was fine….and I think Guero is another album thats up there.

Judgemental shitheads: let me see you write one song or create one piece of art that inspires someone but yourself.
    Beck worshippers: We just Be.

“Scientologists believe that most human problems
can be traced to lingering spirits of an
