i believe her friends told her she could sing. they were probably terrified one of the voices would tell mary to attack if they didn’t agree with her.
i think she put on act so she could be featured on tv. there are moments when she almost starts to laugh. i don’t know, maybe she really is crazy, but i think she wanted to stir up controversy.
I don’t think she put on an act. Last week, Scott linked to a post on some board where Mary described her experience after the audition. It was written in August, so I don’t think that she was pre-empting her audition being shown on TV; she was just telling her story. In context (as she describes it) the whole experience did not sound quite as crazy as the edited version on TV made her out to be. I was almost disappointed to read it, actually. I quite liked the idea of her being some psycho with multiple voices in her head.

Yeah, she was totally going to laugh at the end when she sang her last song. I cannot believe that someone could be that utterly awkward. If she’s realy I feel bad for her.
‘Idol’ Wannabe Arrested After Audition

A contestant on “American Idol” was in jail in Mobile, Alabama when his bizarre audition aired on Tuesday night.
Leroy Wells, 22, who stormed into the New Orleans audition room “crunked” out and repeatedly ranting “Can you dig it?,” was arrested January 5 on charges of assault and firing a weapon.
Wells was arrested for reportedly shooting an handgun into an occupied vehicle.
“Mr. Wells allegedly shot the victim in his hip,” said Moblie police spokesman Marcus Young.
According to police, Wells has been arrested seven other times on charges that include disorderly conduct and marijuana possession.
He was released on $11,000 bond on Wednesday night. His “Idol” performance was taped last summer.
Wells bounced on stage while talking about sandblasting paint for a living at a shipyard near his home near Mobile.
A stunned Simon Cowell called the performance “ridiculous” and joked he couldn’t understand a single word Leroy said.
That was awesome. How soon we forget William Hung. Can Mary parlay her “weirdness is originality too” into a record deal?

Leroy is off the chain! Then again I (unfortunately/fortunately)live in atlanta for the time being so I see a Leroy-esque person damn near every day..
dude leroy was just freakin trippin on something. lots of people act like that when all doped up or drunk off there ass. but mary is the REAL DEAL, i wish she was on every reality tv show. id watch religiously if she was.
