It’s that special time of year when media outlets begin to dictate to you what albums you were supposed to enjoy this year. Dictate! Guess nobody told them live in a democracy, man. Earlier this month you chose the leader of the free world, you can handle choosing the year’s best albums. But how about also choosing the year’s best videos, songs, new acts, indie rock crushes, TV shows, movies, and viral videos?
Welcome to the annual Gummy Awards, and as always, the Stereogum and Videogum families invite you to play a plum role in determining which artworks and humans are remembered as 2012′s finest. This year we’re sweetening the pot by giving away an iPad With Retina Display (WiFi + Cellular, 32GB) to one lucky voter selected randomly. To enter, fill out the ballot below AND share your Best Album pick in the comments. This is real. Gummys The Vote™. Here we go:
Polls close on Wednesday 12/5 at 12 PM EST. Check out last year’s winners here.

I’m with you for best song, at least for the album. People can say what they want about ‘Compton’, but ‘Sing About Me…’ kicks its’ ass.
Totally agreed! That he brings in the narrative from Secion.80 and Keisha’s Song shows a ton of creativity. I feel like it’s the emotional centerpiece of the album.

TYLER THE CREATOR: GOBLIN. BEST ALBUM OF 2012, 2011, AND EVERY OTHER YEAR.

My top album is Landmark by Apollo Ghosts.
Die Antwoord – Ten$ion

Breaking Bad
Drive (i realized it was a 2011 release after i submitted it)
Frank Ocean – Channel Orange
It was a really close call between “Channel ORANGE”, and “good kid, m.A.A.d. city”. Picking a favorite album is like picking a favorite child.
Frank Ocean- Channel Orange

Hooray for pseudo concept albums from super talented musicians that have no money.
“The Idler Wheel…”. It was fate.

Male Crush: Daughn Gibson
Female: Julia Holter (although I forgot about Denise Nouvion from Memoryhouse)
Sufjan & St. Vincent can’t win it every year folks, especially during years where they didn’t release anything (Sufjan last year). And especially when Eleanor Friedberger failed to crack the top ten last year. I take this shit seriously. It’s all I have.
Ha, I totally missed part about commenting my pick for best album. I think I went with Purity Ring’s Shrines, but I don’t remember because I submitted it like a week ago, plus it was hard to choose this year.
Best Album? “Boys and Girls” by Alabama Shakes
