“Somewhere Out There” is the big weepy-ballad centerpiece of the 1986 Don Bluth animated movie An American Tale, and it’s been stuck in my head pretty much nonstop since 1986. Apparently, snot-rock warrior King Tuff can relate. Tuff contributed a surprisingly low-in-snark cover of the song to The Wiener Dog Comp, a benefit cassette compilation, now sold-out, that raised money for an ailing dachshund named Popcorn. I will always associate this song with Community, solid cover though!
This version is almost as good as Troy and Abed’s cover. This one is definitely a bit creepier.
