On his new mixtape New Jet City, released just yesterday, the heavy-lidded and crazy-prolific New Orleans rapper Curren$y went big, lining up a very serious roster of guests: Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J, French Montana, Trinidad James, Jadakiss, Styles P, hometown hero Juvenile. He also enlisted big-deal producers like Harry Fraud, Lex Luger, DJ Toomp, and Cardo. But the tape itself ambles pleasantly the way Curren$y tapes always do: Drifting textures, marble-mouthed flows, nothing too energetic interrupting the constant and reassuring ebb-and-flow.
