In a couple of weeks, Trent Reznor and how How to destroy angels_ project will release Welcome oblivion, their debut full-length album, the eventual logical follow-up to the two EPs they’ve already given us. We’ve heard the early single “How long?” and seen its squirmily brutal video, and now here’s another one: A vaguely industrial half-instrumental squiggle-grind called “And the sky began to scream.” After the mutated folk music of last year’s An omen EP, this feels like Reznor taking a cautious and ginger step back toward Nine Inch Nails territory.
