Los Angeles avant-pop enigmas are about to release their new album The False Alarms, and the video hazily pretty lead single “200 Words” is a surprisingly sumptuous affair that lists a few visual effects people in its credits. As far as I can tell, director Aaron Ohlmann is telling us a love story about a girl and an astronaut, but the video also has dancing satellite dishes and bodies falling to earth. Watch it below.
The False Alarms is out 3/19 on Asthmatic Kitty.

My band shared a show at the Echo with Fol Chen in LA; the house was packed and we were excited to go on after them to a full house, except that they ended their set with a shitty audience experiment that cleared the room and we proceeded to play to an empty house. Thanks, Fol Chen! Loved your black and red vinyl outfits that night, too! Stellar act, all around. Nothing like giving no shits about welcoming a touring band. The least you could do is not clear the room at the end of your set for the sake of the people playing after you. Bad band karma, Fol Chen. :-/
Not Fol Chen’s fault that no one stayed to see your band. LA is their home so of course they’d pack the house. They’re an experimental pop band so it’s a given they’d ‘experiment’ w/their fans. Unfortunate that your band couldn’t bring them back.
Excellent vid/song. I’m looking forward to the new album!
What did you expect, playing after the headlining act in their hometown? People tend to leave at that point. The negativity of your comment seems like worse band karma to me.
Yikes! It was all good in the end, some of our friends showed up at least so I exaggerate when I say we played to an empty house. It seemed empty compared to the amount of people that were there for Fol Chen. In general when we host an out of town band in our home town, we try to do what we can to keep the audience around. Fol Chen didn’t do that. Their particular experiment that night seemed to purposefully clear the room and it was disappointing. So it goes!
That’s cool, but FUCK CONVERSE!
Thanks Stereogum!
