Tame Impala

Tame Impala’s single “Elephant” from Lonerism was picked up for a Blackberry commercial. Watch the video below. In case you missed it: the band also recently released the Mind Mischief EP featuring remixes by Ducktails and The Field.

  1. OMG TAME IMPALA IS SO OVER!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Hidden due to low comment rating. Click here to see

  3. Bunch of money for a band I love. No problems here.
Side note, seeing Blackberrys with no keypad is weird.

  4. Why are you guys being babies about this? Everyone needs to make a buck.

  5. TAME IMPALA? MORE LIKE LAME IMPALA!

    AM I RIGHT?

  6. I love the obligatory haterade people drink when they see a band so called ‘selling out’ like this. They are probably driving around in a winnebago to survive and you pompous asses feel like its somehow inappropriate for them to earn a living.

    • I agree with you, only in that it’s unfair to blame new bands for taking advantage of what is probably the only way to support a music career these days. It would be nice if more people were aware of how google and (to a lesser extent) apple have created this situation and are profiting from it in uprecendented fashion. Now that Thom Yorke and Trent Reznor have come out against big tech (I know everyone got sick of hearing David Lowery), shouldn’t we see some coverage of this on sites like stereogum?

      • I agree with both of you, although it is quite fun and funny to make fun of everything and everyone behind the anonymity of the internet (no sarcasm there I really do find it hilarious) the truth is being in a band is fucking difficult, and very very expensive. Most people think it just drugs, girls and sleeping in, and there’s a bit of that but not nearly as much as people imagine, it’s not the 70′s any more. When good bands get paid to do things like this it helps them be a better band, if they are smart. Yeah, it sucks that cool bands have to contribute to bullshit consumerism and the organized crime we call capitalism, but unfortunately we also need to eat and put GAS (which we should all be way more concerned about) in our vans and busses to drive around so everyone can enjoy the show.

I think Henry Rollins sums is up best here: “PAY THEM DOUBLE, PAY THEM NOW!”

        • I take it you are a touring musician? If you’ve been in the game for a while, then you must have noticed how the industry has shifted from a professional one to an amateur one. I know all too well what it’s like playing for gas money, eating the dollar menu, sleeping on floors that smell like cat piss. The issue is that there are far too many bands doing this right now, and although most of them have some notion of how they will eventually “make it”, the sheer volume of bands on the road means that the new music industry (Google, Spotify, Apple, even soundcloud) is thriving off a ton of musicians who are happy to fill websites with “content” (songs) in exchange for “exposure” (bullshit). When there is a never ending supply of people willing to give it away for free, nobody gets paid at all. Yeah, a few people are able to make a dollar here and there off licensing, but we are moving very quickly into a time where most of the music we listen to will be created by people who do other things for a living. A quick glance at the “quit your day job” section of this website will tell you that we’re already pretty much there.

    • my comment was a joke

    • Mine was a joke as well. Most people appear to be joking, hence the caps lock and hashtags
