TylerTheCreatorMountainDew

Tyler, The Creator was tapped by Mountain Dew to create a series of commercials for the soft drink. This first clip features one of his pseudo-alter egos Felicia The Goat, voiced by the rapper, getting hostile with a waitress as Odd Future affiliate Errol Chatman gawks. The spot is very much in Tyler’s oddball vein of comedy, but it does serve as reminder that Odd Future has had previous problems with the soda brand. During a performance at SXSW ’11, Tyler was hit in the face by an audience member who threw a bottle of Mountain Dew at him. Watch the commercial teaser below and expect to see a full version on TV in a few days.

  1. uhh that was terrible. except when he said “he nasty”

  2. that was bad

  3. Yeah. This is awful.

  4. I never want to see that again.

  5. That was almost as bad as the Wayne Coyne’s Virgin commercial.

  6. Even I’ll admit this isn’t funny or entertaining at all.

  7. I was temporarily blinded after watching that.

  8. Gotta say, as an avid fan of Mountain Dew commercials, this is a HUGE disappointment. I’ll admit, they’ve had their creative bumps in the road, and a lot of their work throughout the years hasn’t aged well, but I really don’t see them recovering from this. This post-Adult Swim absurdist angle shows they’re trying way too hard to stay relevant to teens and young adults. I imagine this demographic is keen enough to see right through this. Us longtime fans love MD ads Do the Dew because it’s what we’ve always done. Don’t ditch us because you want younger folks to “Dew It”. It won’t work. It’s rubbish. Even the critically acclaimed director you brought in can’t save it from being rubbish.

  9. Damn, I’m gonna be the loser here and say that I thought it was funny. I was entertained.

But goats, toats suck. Take it from an opossum.
