Brandon’s got beef with fellow NME cover boys (and HFStival act) the Bravery. Via MTV News:
“Look at a band like the Bravery. They’re signed because we’re a band,” Flowers said. “I’ve heard rumors about [members of] that band being in a different kind of band, and how do you defend that? If you say, ‘My heart really belongs to what I’m doing now,’ but you used to be in a ska band. I can see the Strokes play or Franz Ferdinand play and it’s real, and I haven’t gotten that from the Bravery. I think people will see through them.”

He does not wear excessive amounts of makeup like many of the common bands do. What happened to Billie Joe in green day? Now he’s packing it on. Its a style, a fad and one day, it will fade away.

I have been in the music biz since the 80′s ( most likely before most of you were born) and all I can say is more people should open their minds to music, and try not to hold too much opinion, good or bad. You’ll find music a lot more enjoyable.Both these bands are great.And they are on the same label, so the staff at Island must have seen something worth investing in. It’s unfortunate that Mr. Flowers feels threatened by the edition of this band to his label, perhaps feeling like there is a small pie to be shared. And its not surprising that he doesn’t like their music(even though I think secretly he might) when a musician hears another artist producing a similar sound to his own they usually start to pick it apart, comparing it to their own, and typically dismiss it. But its all “jealousy” ( sung to the tune of Mr. Brightside) . Brandon is young,and if I became famous when I was as young, I would probably be a self centered insufferable ass too. Its ok to think a band sucks when you are famous, but keep that shit to yourself or you’ll come across as an asshole. Isn’t THAT obvious?
Now as far as “seeing through originality”as Brandon described the Bravery .Here is a small rundown of where The killers got a couple of their ideas for their songs. And let me just say that no one is “original”, nor does that matter, are bluesman original? well you get the point.
Mr. Brightside: Chorus from Blondie’s “Dreaming” and the verse is stolen from Underworld’s “born slippy” from the Trainspotting soundtrack.I know this is true. it sounds too close for it to be a coincidence. Go to Kazaa and find it.

The recent Q & A from Rolling Stone magazine, (April 21, 2005 Issue 972) perfectly exposes Brandon Flowers of The Killers for the pretentious and insignificant bore he truly is.. aside from not being able to express anything significant or worthwhile about himself or his music, his uncouth (and without reason) slight about John Mayer, and the song Daughters, further proved the real dullard that Brandon Flowers is.
It doesn’t really matter anyway, in 3 or 4 years time.. probably (HOPEFULLY) less, his lousy group (with their moronic name) will likely have all disbanded, and he’ll be back in Nevada slinging potatoes and playing his one hit song in the finest cheap hotels.

Okay, let me start this off very bluntly. The Bravery are fuckin posers. Honestly, I have much more respect for The Killers than I would the bravery. Brandon Flowers can ACTUALLY SING! I don’t want ya’ll to think i’m some random ock who listens to whatever’s on the radio nowadays. My favorite bands are The Cure, The Smiths, Joy Division, Gang of Four, Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Love and Rockets,Nick Cave, The Rapture, Moving Units, Bloc Party (who is going to be playing at my birthday party) Cult Hero’s, New Order, Belle and Sebastian, The Clash,RadioHead, etc. But I honestly do have alot of respect for The Killers. They have so much more thought and more meat in thier lyrics, definitely alot more creative than…Don’t look at me that wayyy.. It was an Honest Mistake.. That’s fuckin horrible! It doesnt even make sense! I gurantee you, if you took out all the techno beats from The Bravery and took out that robotic voice muffler effect, HE WOULD SOUND LIKE COMPLETE SHIT. It’s called INFLUENCES! Music has been around too long to constantly make something new everytime. So what if the killers are Influenced by those bands? Is it a bad thing? They are good bands!! The BRavery, They seriously sound like they’re just trying to bite off The Killers or The Faint or something. I also heard they suck live. The Faint and The Killers are amazing live, They acutally use real instruments, The Faint even used Violins and whatnot, I’m just saying.. It takes alot more than a fucking Computer and Garage band to make good meaningful music, which obviously scores The Bravery out. People are being decieved by them and it’s goign to continue to happen, it’s inevitable because people are ignorant, but that only goes to The Bravery’s advantage. I would pick the Killers over The Bravery, but they both seem to be doing extremely well and they pioneers of music that made it all happen to begin with are completely unknown, so I would recommend you to rather go out and buy a Gang of Four CD, or a Cure cd, or a Morrissey, Bauhaus, Cocteau twins, etc. Honestly…

I dunno, when I first heard the Killers disk I was impressed. The vocals were sexy, the synths catchy, and the lyrics were obscure, dense and oddly poetic.
I was new in the style of music though, having previously been stuck in a 70s classic rock, folk, and pop phase. (the beatles, todd rundgren, joni mitchell, ledzep, elo) And I sort of ventured into an electronica phase, and then got really into Bjork and some accoustic stuff. but honestly who isn’t been in an accoustic phase?
Sorry weird side branch. But anyway, after listening to Hot Fuss, I was introduced to that style of music, British new wave, synth-ridden, new order inspired junk.
The Killers are really a lot more accessible than, say, the Strokes or even Interpol. (at least thats my opinion) Their music is varied, no two songs on the album is really alike. I mean, as much as I love the White Stripes, they have about 3 different styles used over and over again. Same with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

my only real complaint is the accoustic genre. they are starting to bug me. shut UP with your 4 chord changes!!! A 10 year old could play your songs!!!!!!!!!

I have a few things to say, One I first heard the Bravery’s ‘Honest mistake’ but like, only the end of the song and thought wow what a good song, so I downloaded a few songs.. I just have to say I was horrified, it sucked big time. And the killers.. Love them. And no, I didn’t start liking them for their looks, or any of that. I heard the song ‘Somebody told me’ on the radio and I loved them, But Brandon Flowers was an added bonus. Anyway, Brandon said things about the Bravery because, when the Bravery was compared to The killers in an interveiw they were like offended, which they had no right since The killers music rocks. And I dont know what you people are talking about, because what Brandon said did not sound cocky at all. It sounds like he has a love for music and it offends him when people lie about liking a genre of music just to be popular. And he said “Because we’re a band.” Yet you bash Brandon for it, when I’m sure the whole band thinks that. Another thing, Why are you bashing how he looks? How does that have ANYTHING to do with what he SAID? And, So what if he isn’t like he portrays himself? Hes at his huge house, or five star hotel, counting his money and having people wait on him and kiss his ass, And your just getting by, trying to keep a job and pay your bills. I bet hes laughing his ass off, at you people thinking it hurts him that you thinks hes a fake, and a prick and the Killers suck, and you wouldn’t listen to them even if someone held a gun to your head. So-fucking-what? Hes rich, A hotty and is in an awesome band having the best life possible, while your thinking up pitiful ways to insult his looks, or his personality. He cares what his fans think, not you, so dont think so highly of yourselves.

Mike, Make-up is like.. ‘IN’ now, and if you wanna make money, which is why people make music and sell records, then they go with whats ‘IN.’ And isn’t it obvious who likes the Killers? Oh em gee, the people saying “I LOVE THE KILLERS THEY ROCK I LOVE THEM beep beep beep beep random swear word you suck!!’ doesn’t show you anything? And so what if Brandon is a cocky prick who speaks his mind and is stuck up? I dont know about some people, but I find that very sexy. Another thing, stop bashing Brandon, if you hate the BAND, just say you hate the god dam BAND. I’m sure if I saw you people I would probably have a stroke from laughing so hard, so why bash a very fine guy just because you hate the band hes in? only a few problems with his story
1. the bravery had completed their album before they heard the killers.
2. the killers are an 80′s rip off – quite obviously.
