Sorry for tricking nine thousand of you into downloading “Vibeology.” Here, lemme make it up to you. Or here, here, here, here.

“When someone comes up to you and asks which Led Zeppelin album they should buy, you should say Physical Graffiti,” Dave tells NME. “And, in 20 years, when your kid comes up to you and asks which Foo Fighters album he or she should buy, I want you to say In Your Honor.”

  1. When my kid asks me to recommend a Foo Fighters album I’ll give him In Utero.

  2. coo, thanks for the links

  3. Mr. Mason  |   Posted on Apr 21st, 2005

When MY child asks what Foo Fighters album he or she should buy, I will strike them across the mouth so hard that they won’t wake up again until after I’ve put him or her up for adoption.

  4. diz.from.mars  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2005

If any of my future offspring were to ask me that, they’d be put up for adoption quicker than you can say “Frances Bean”.

  5. Eddie Vedder  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2005

Yeah you should give the kid up for adoption because in 15 years the kids will all still be listening to Bloc Party, and the Arcade Fire.

  6. Dave Grohl is my favourite teenage idol! Thanks for this.

  7. E-DUB  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2005

The Cool Kids? Well alot of them have viruses on them. Especially “Copy, Right?” You guys at Stereogum should take the infected ones off. Thankx

  8. the more i listen to this song, the more i like it. nothing ground breaking, but still a great f’in song.

  9. Wrong Dave, Houses of the Holy is clearly the best way to get the Led out.

  10. thanks for the payback. that 04/01 link emotionally scarred me.

  11. and that’s quite an ambitious goal for Grohl. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the album.

  12. The more I listen to this song the most I can picture it in a sports drink commercial.

  13. Dude Led Zeppelin IV or the rune album is the best introduction to LZ any child could get

“We salute you, our half inflated dark lord”

  14. thejosh  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2005

“in 15 years the kids will all still be listening to Bloc Party, and the Arcade Fire.” hahahahaha. you’ve got to be joking.

  15. further proof that everyone has their own personal Led Zep which they know and love. i can reach as deep into their catalog as I like (though, never quite as far as Presence) and I’ll always let my hand drift back to LZ-2.

i gotta say, this cut sounds like Grohl is really making some effort to grow as a lyricist/vocalist. it’s not the second coming of christ, but it’s certainly a few floors higher than “This is a Call.”

  16. Funny, every time I have to reach for a Zepp album, I find that more than half the time I pick up III. The contrasts of “Immigrant Song” or “Celebration Day” vs. “That’s The Way” or “Tangerine” do it for me every time.

  17. Grohl’s crazy. Houses of the Holy or II, hands down.

  18. some music snob  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2005

ok thejosh … you won’t be to party with me in my hovercraft when i go see The Bloc Party at the Lunar Bowl on the Moon …

and my kids will probably just refer to the Foo Fighters as “that guy from Access Hollywood who married Mary Kate Olsen”‘s band

everything i’ve read, heard about Grohl makes him sound like a righteous dude … but HONESTLY (not some sort of phony indie soapbox) the Foo Fighters do nothing to very little for me … i like Stacked Actors and Hey Johnny Park a little but i dont get the hubub …if Grohl hadnt been in Nirvana … the Foo Fighters would be as popular as someone like Local H or Collective Soul … lots of radio hits but no zest

  19. smitty  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2005

the josh: i think “eddie vedder” was joking. that was the point.

  20. C. Bons  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2005

care you elaborate on the viruses remark?

  21. adam  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2005

I’d say it sounds more like one of those things NBC puts together about 2 months before the Olympics or football finals or whatever is on, to try to rev people up.

And people are all doing the ski jump and and diving and spinning and running and winning. And it’s like 2 minutes long, and you’re all like, can they make commercials this long? and it takes up all the time almost of one of the Apprentice’s commercial breaks.

And then at the end it just says 00000 with the NBC logo with the quiet guitar part at the end that it started with.

Maybe a wavy sorta translucent flag.

  22. Billy K  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2005

I like (liked?) Foo Fighters. I have always considered them a better band than Nirvana could ever have been, but this song is a ready-made beer commerical. Or maybe Gatorade…

“Is someone getting the best of YOU? Try new Gatorade Power Refresh…to get the best of YOU!”

And whoever said it sounds like Grohl is working on his lyrics…was that sarcasm? These might be Creed-like in quality.

Steregum – please tell me you didn’t get paid to plug this. Please?

  23. Oh please. Bloggers don’t get paid to plug anything. Well, at least I don’t.

I actually sorta like this song. I agree it’s totally a Gatorade commercial, though.

  24. slappin  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2005

foo fighters would be so good if they were on merge records…

  25. lmao slappin!

  26. fred  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2005

First things first, if somebody asked me what Led Zepplin album to buy, Physical Graffiti would be near the bottom of the list, Led Zep IV is the one. Secondly, the Foo Fighters album to buy is the first one. And finally, I expected more from this song, very Foo by numbers if you ask me.

  27. Dave Grohl’s bad taste in Zeppelin albums is just further proof that he’s a hack and shouldn’t be writing songs in the first place.

  28. fuck zep, listen to the stones.

  29. Shaka Zulu  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2005

If someone asked me what what Led Zeppelin album to buy I would tell them to come over here and rotate on my jimmy so I can give them a good dose of VD. Then If they asked what Foo record to buy I would tell them to hop on one foot for 36 minutes and then eat 17 hard boiled eggs. Shaka out.

  30. Is it growing on me a bit but Gatorade is right.

    Shaka’s still a fag.

  31. Hey, E-Dub, no one else seems to have viral problems with my MP3s. So, um, back off.

  32. onaplain987  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2005

sloop let me see you write a song and get signed you retard, i dont see that happening

  33. Wow, powerful lyrics. These guys never quit rocking!

  34. While I love P.Graph, you gotta go with I or II, if your looking to simply introduce. If were going with Favorites, it’s Holy.

  35. FebStars  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2005

This song is probably not their best, but it definitely grows on you. Plus the quality sucks -which plays a factor. Any of you who say that Nirvana is better than the foo are on crack. Smoke a j, and listen to the Colour and the Shape from Beg to End; Then tell me that Nirvana is better. I am sure there will be songs on ‘In your honor’ that will blow us away. Plus how cool is the guy to have Norah Jones on the CD. It just shows his love for music and his lack of concern about what you,I or the next guy thinks of him

  36. hahaha because the stones are better than led zeppelin, same goes for the reverse. Both bands = overrated.

Try listening to the eyes or velvet underground for actual rock.

  37. Steady Rifle  |   Posted on Apr 23rd, 2005

Please, comparing VU to the Stones is absurd…Keith wipes his ass with Lou Reed…

  38. Nick  |   Posted on Apr 23rd, 2005

thanks for a credible download….it’ll never reach everlong…

  39. Steven  |   Posted on Apr 24th, 2005

This song sucks for the Foo Fighters. This is in no way a great song. All My Life is still the Foo Fighter’s best single. Hell, Best Of You may have easy to relate to lyrics, but the song is all too much of the same alternative rock and is pretty boring, don’t get excited about this song.

  40. phishguts  |   Posted on Apr 24th, 2005

    pretty weak

  41. Evidence  |   Posted on Apr 25th, 2005

This song is a 7.89/10. It’s quasi great. It’s the diet coke of great, just 1 calorie away from being great.

  42. Dave is the Man  |   Posted on Apr 25th, 2005

I’m sorry, I love Dave in all his many forms, and while I wasn’t blown away by this song, and it’s definitely a little more pop rocky than I’d like, it does grow on you. But I can’t believe they can beat out the colour and the shape…I love that album so much. But, I believe we will see good things out of this album. I gotta trust in the Foo…My favorite band…can’t really explain why…but I love them

  43. lukedawg  |   Posted on Apr 25th, 2005

well most of yall aint rele listened to his stuff before cuz this is defaintly harder than all his previous work and in all aspects dave is a kickass song writer and guitarist but one of the best drummers of all time…yall can say it is soundin like creed or what not i think this is very foo…..

  44. Nate  |   Posted on Apr 25th, 2005

Dave should stick to rocking out with Tenacious D

  45. STFU  |   Posted on Apr 25th, 2005

“Ohmahgawd, The Foo Fighters actually get radio airplay and aren’t some piece of sh*t obscure college garage band from South Dakota! I MUST HATE THEM!!!” Shut the hell up y’all. It’s a great song and The Foo Fighters are a great band. I can’t stand people who try to be “music snobs” by pretending they hate anything that has garnered a speck of commercial success. Have of y’all’s The Arcade Fire CD is bookended by Spice Girls and Aaron Carter, so shut the f*ck up and enjoy something for once.

  46. well said

  47. Very Foo, very true…the best of you…LEd Zepplin…Velvet underground…rolling stones…nirvana…the fact that these bands are even mentioned in the same sentence gives you some idea that they can be compared…all greats…there is more to come from in your honor and i have a feeling that i wil buy this for my kid in 20 years as the best foo album ever…hell, i have a feeling it’s gonna be like pet sounds or sgt. pepper’s just to throw in the fucking beatles…rock on fighter’s foo…rock on

  48. Tumohawk  |   Posted on Apr 26th, 2005

First things first, thanks for the download. Secondly, the song is awesome, roll on new album. Thirdly, Physical Graffiti is the best Led album, not by far but it is. If In your honour comes close to P/G I will be a happy chappy. Lastly, if no one has anything good to say, don’t say anything at all. fuck you very much!

  49. John  |   Posted on Apr 26th, 2005

If my kid asks me “which Foo album should I buy?” I would not hesitate to say COLOUR AND THE SHAPE. I love the foo fighters and will be buying In Your Honor at 11:59 on June 13th, but I don’t think there’s any way the Foo can make a more consistant album as COLOUR.

  50. Rachel  |   Posted on Apr 27th, 2005

As a huge dave grohl and foo fighters fan its my duty to like this song, but i’ve gotta say i was a bit dissapointed when i first heard it. I expected a bit more, i don’t know what, but just that little bit more would have given it the edge. It has grown on me after a few listens and i think its a good song but all my life and everlong still do it for me. I can kinda relateto the sports advert suggestion aswell. Can’t wait for the new album though – Go dave !!!

  51. George  |   Posted on Apr 27th, 2005

Unfortuneately im dissapointed with the foo’s new single its a great song but not a great foo fighter song. i expected more :( . Hopefully there will be some obscure track that isn’t released as a single tht i’ll fall in love with. Best zep introduction has to be LZ-3 it was the first zep album i ever listened to and it has “plant”ed zep as my fave band ever (get it ;) .anyway there new song is better than nearly every other song on the radio at the moment but not as good as the Foo’s have previously done. maybe it’ll grow on me.

  52. DravinCrow18  |   Posted on Apr 27th, 2005

Nirvana was nothign w/o Ghrol…I met Dave in Pittsburgh. He is the Koolest most down to earth rock start that I have ever met ( and i’ve met quite a few)…Point is…..Nirvana or not…The Foo’s would still be as hudge as they are…..Local H….PLZ, give me a break they will never be sweat on the Foo’s balls…and if I may chip in my fav. Foo song, it would have to be..mmm…AURORA !

    thanks for allowing my opinion:

  53. Kyle  |   Posted on Apr 28th, 2005

I love this song, I am looking for the lyrics atm and can not find them. If anyone finds them it would be great if they could email it to me… KPerry8186@msn.com :)

  54. Alyssa  |   Posted on Apr 28th, 2005

my kids will not have to ask me which foo fighters album to buy because i will have all of them in my collection. I have them all and will buy In Your Honor the day it comes out. So that will not be a question i will have to hear. DAVE GROHL IS THE SEXIEST AND ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED GUYS OUT THERE!!!! i <3 dave! kudos to him for being so damn sexy while still rockin the hell out of the foo fighters!

  55. Thank you…To Dave Grohl for putting out one hell of a good song, and to whomever it was that put these files online.

  56. bullshit  |   Posted on Apr 29th, 2005

This song doesnt suck! He even said on the Foo Fighters site that he puts his soul in to this album by matter of speaking. Well you can hear it. Its the best of Foo Fighters. I can’t wait untill the full album comes out.

  57. I love the jackasses that dog Dave and the Foo Fighters by saying that he’d be nothing if he wasn’t in Nirvana. Ok then….John Lennon would have been nothing if he wasn’t in the Beatles. So f’n what? They both managed to write killer songs after their more famous previous gigs ended. Bottom line is, the Foo Fighters are the best mainstream rock band in the entire world today. Name some who are better?

  58. Tony  |   Posted on Apr 30th, 2005

    thanks mate!

  59. dah00psta  |   Posted on Apr 30th, 2005

This is a another good Foo song, but not their best. A little pop, and slogany, but its catchy, grows on you and it will be a mainstream hit.

The Foo Fighters have their own sound and this song fits it. This song is prime for a live performance with Dave ripping out the lyrics.

  60. foo fighters are still the greatest band in mainstream right now no questions asked…instead of bashing the new single, just enjoy it…we all got our opinions about it but lets be realistical…u cant please everyone! we all know its a hit, and we all know foo fighters kick ass…lets just leave it at that!
and as for which zepp album to first introduce ur kid too…i say give them all of them! LZ iz awesome, and im sure our kids will realize that too
p.s: if anyone has the lyrics to “best of you” would u mind passing them this way? spanx :)

  61. dave grohl = the man

this is the second link, just copy and paste it. the song works, no viruses or anything. 128 bit. fair quality.

  65. allen  |   Posted on Apr 30th, 2005

i just saw them live the other night practicing for their euro tour, they were incredible! best of you is definitely a song that grows on you (i love it now), and its way better live, cause dave screams the hell out it. he said himself “this song’s a screamer”…shit it was…my ears are still ringing…

  66. qotsa  |   Posted on Apr 30th, 2005

This song sucks and this is coming from a huge foo fighters fan. I think Foo Fighters have reached the end of the line songwriting wise, they can still put on a hell of a show. How can this be the same band that wrote Everlong, This is a Call, Learn to Fly? Hard to believe. And Steven, I agree with you about this song, but All My Life is their best single? Give me a break, I like that song but it has to be below at least Everlong and Monkey Wrench.

  67. saifer  |   Posted on Apr 30th, 2005

    fuck the haters…foo fighters rule!!

  68. nocturna  |   Posted on May 1st, 2005

oh c’mon this song doesnt suck.i like it not the best but i think we are gonna headbang when we get the album so lets wait it but i repeat it s a great song

  69. Rachel  |   Posted on May 1st, 2005

This song doesn’t do as much for me as Halo or My Hero…but I expect it’ll grow on me. Can’t wait for the new album though.

  70. Peaches  |   Posted on May 1st, 2005

In response to “QOTSA”: How can you claim to be a “huge FF fan” if you ask a question like that? (“How can this be the same band that wrote Everlong, This is a Call, Learn to Fly?”) It’s NOT the same band! Dude, the “band” was just Dave for the 1st album; then the band changed line-ups between & during the making of the 2nd & 3rd albums! Not to mention the fact that people, even musicians, tend to GROW over the years… the Beatles didn’t sound the same from “Meet the Beatles” to “Abbey Road”… This is just where FF are musically right now… Is “Best of You” the best FF song ever? Hardly. But it doesn’t suck.

  71. Foo rock

  72. FooFanTimesAThousand  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2005

I love it — it grew on me. If my ex-boyfriend had any brains it would be his thoughts on me. I’m putting in my playlist alongside Everlong as a great love song.

  73. Chief  |   Posted on May 4th, 2005

try Led’s BBC sessions… The Rawness of the recordings will smack you in the face!!! Especially the joined The Immigrant Song/Heartbreaker…

I had high hopes of the new Foo cd. Listening to this song changed that. The song sucks, the chorus is irritating.

it will NEVER be as good as the Colour and the Shape
I miss Pat Smear’s great hooks.

  74. Storme  |   Posted on May 4th, 2005

Coming from a huge fan, I thought the last album was complete trash, as did Dave (See his interviews in Misc. Rock Mags this month). He thought it had 3 or 4 good songs, but the rest were not them at all.
When I hear this song, it reminds me of the songs before the last album. Sure, its a little poppy, but so what? I love this song.
Dave’s putting his soul into the next album and giving it everything he has to create something to be remembered forever. This is their 10th anniversary album, remember? He wants the world to look at it as a symbol of who they are.

I love the Foo Fighters, and the last album didn’t change that, but I love what theyre doing now.

In any case, I’m still the only high schooler in my town to have a Foo Fighters patch on his letter jacket :-p

    –Storme

P.S.- BTW, the name “In Your Honor” came to David while he was on the campeing trail with John Kerry , oddly enough. He said that this isn’t a political album by anymeans, but it was inspired by the hope that Kerry brought people.

  75. thesmartone  |   Posted on May 4th, 2005

dave grohl has taken what Kurt thought he had and made it good. Nirvana was nothing more what it recieved. Long live the living. KURT MADE A DECISION>>>>>>>>>>>>>>DEAL WITH IT.

  76. Dead or alive, Nirvana’s music will always be better than Foo Fighters.. Dave is a better drummer than he is a singer..

  77. Great new song. yes i agree, last album wasnt very good. but i hope this album brings new light to the foo fighters. dave grohl, he is a legend. nirvana was a starting point for his career. he has lived up to and beyond what i thought he could do. rock on foo’ies

  78. Josie  |   Posted on May 6th, 2005

Oh, some much i agree and disagree with! wonderful song, took 5 listens but foo’s usually release weakest track from album first, cant wait to hear the rest. best song – aurora! as someone said the band has developed musically, IMHO for the better. Dave is a super musician and being in Nirvana formed part of what he is and i think we all respect that! The most exciting band of our time with potential to last through the ages. Bring on “In Your Honor”!

  79. Jeff Barnard  |   Posted on May 7th, 2005

I hate to say this as a loyal Nirvana fan but Dave Grohl is the best thing to come from Nirvana. What a positive attitude and great role model for kids to look up to. Such a diverse musician too. All of my favorite musicians have died from drug overdoses and suicides. I’ve got to thankful for Dave grohl, he will be around for awhile. I feel robbed as a fan of Nirvana and Alice in Chains. Selfish a-holes! As for this new song, i like it. Colour and the shape is my favorite but this is catchy. All of the F.F. songs are catchy though. Besides i’m tired of depressing music. Keep it up Dave!

  80. JackAllen  |   Posted on May 7th, 2005

this song is pretty tight, those who think commercial from this must be slow, and yeah the lyrics are intelligent too so shut up, youre retarded. its easy to relate to and I like the vocals on it. I guess if youre a fag and aint ever broke up with a chick you couldnt relate with it though…

  81. JackAllen  |   Posted on May 7th, 2005

oh yeah, and what the hell “besides Im tired of depressing music”…you dont find this song depressing somewhat?…I mean it aint too bad…but I definately wouldnt say its an song you listen to and go “wow I bet someones out fucking my girl right now :D yay”

  82. JackAllen  |   Posted on May 7th, 2005

wow i realized something…most of you think the song means like “getting the best of you” as the old phrase “dont let them get the best of you” or something…read into the lyrics and stop being shit tards, thats not what it means at all

  83. gian  |   Posted on May 8th, 2005

how can we say”this is the best song” or “the best album” of a band? it’s personal, you like it or not. it give you emotions or it doesn’t. i don’t know what’s the best of….. i like this song a lot, like many others

  84. Paul  |   Posted on May 9th, 2005

who died and made so many people here Gods in their own little worlds! like it, love it, dislike it, hate it, have your opinion! just dont tell everyone else what they are “supposed” to think! Grohl wont care anyway.

  85. THAWK69  |   Posted on May 9th, 2005

My parents warned me that this kind of thing would happen if I kept listening to Led Zepplin records.

  86. craig  |   Posted on May 10th, 2005

I’d still like to know if he really kicked William Goldsmith out of his band for shagging his wife.

And if someone ask’s me in 20 years what’s the best Foo Fighter’s album I’ll say Diary. ;-)

  87. FooFan  |   Posted on May 10th, 2005

How can any idiot say that if Dave hadnt been in nirvana the Foo would be nothing?? Do you have ears?? Thats like saying if Chris hadnt been in soundgarden audioslave would be nothing!!Or if Dave hadnt been in fear…. NIRVANA would have been nothing!!!! LOL right….. bands make it big and stay there because they write and play music which appeals to the listener not because some hold loyalties to a band of the past!!!

  88. Craig  |   Posted on May 10th, 2005

Come on guys! This idolization thing has to stop, break out of the fucking sleep! Its ok not to like a song by your favorite band! They are human like everyone else, they make faults, its a lie if you say you like every song! “Best Of You” is not a good song in my opinion. Sounds a bit modern, redundant, and vapid. Come on Dave, an octave guitar solo, its been done. Anyone else think this song is similar to “Normal”, both muscially and lyrically? And yes, I hear the resemblence to that Incubus song which I won’t mention.

  89. Ok, all you f^&kwits bagging this exceptional band, here is my challenge – You Do Better. Foo are more real and rockin than so many bands, and have the endurance to boot.
Secondly, when the f^&k are you losers gonna let Dave shed this rediculous nirvana baggage? Kurt, rest his soul, and nirvana was a great era, but it has been over 10 years since he died. How many albums of pure rock genius is it gonna take before you stop comparing it to “3 chord drone”? (a loose K.Cobain quote about nirvana’s music).
So, all you tards get your ears out of your arseholes and listen to what is actually there.

  90. Sorry guys for posting that I am a huge dickwad!

  91. Jimmy  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005

I didn’t know “rediculous” was a word Dan! You from da’ south boy? They ain’t teach that there engleesh ain’t no good down dar’ do they? Have myself some corn and taters then sleep with my sista’! Redneck “red”iculous,
Join in evry’ body do your best hick impression!

  92. So the single is already out in America, while we Brits have to wait until the 30th unless we pay for it over iTunes… so I guess a massive thankyou is in order for posting the links, Dave Grohl really is my idol and I am expecting great things from this album…!

  93. y do loadsa peeps always think that wen anythin remote to the foo’s come about they think it’s the worst thing in the world?!? i’m 16 n a rocker i wear my foo shirt n get the worst looks in the world. Chavs where i am take the piss cause i av no bling on but i pity them cause they’re all the same. Leave em be they’re an awesome band with a great lead hu put it this way doesnt have a bad history behind him. Rachxx

    Done.

  97. Crocks  |   Posted on May 18th, 2005

Mate. Anyone who bags the foo’s should be shot. They are the greatest rock band ever!!! Let us not forget that there are other members of the foo’s. Taylor Hawkins also rocks the hell out of the drums. But hail to Dave. The best song writer ever. Best of You isn’t their best song but hell who cares, its still wikid and rocks the hell out of the radio
