i agree bee. this is depressing. so shoddy. I count Exile in Guyville as one of my favorite albums of all time. i’ve never seen someone go so 180…it’s such a bummer. H ope it’s paying the bills!
It’s sad to see that the stream of time continues to wear away her edge. Is this really the same woman that made the Girlysound Demos and Exile in Guyville?
Again, not a big Springsteen fan (I’l lame, I know), but do have Exile in Guyville in my top ten… Whip Smart is probably in the top 20… Whitechocolatespaceegg and the wouldn’t make the top 100… Even WITH songs like Hot White Cum.. Is it the effects of motherhood?
I will say that she is a beautiful woman at 37 or 38. And without the facelift, botox, etc.
the real prob here is this. the new liz phair? bears no relation to the classic albums we know and love. it is like someone bought a famous brand name, slapped shoddy merchandise inside the old box and sold it to unsuspecting soccer moms with a juicy bit of desperate housewives style ad gloss. or conversely to disinterested nascar dads with a little bit of panty raid milf mythology.
for serious yo, this challenges my sensibilities.
if this sort of thing is unfamiliar to anyone, I recommend a prompt viewing of the david spade/chris farley buddy movie, tommy boy.
You know, her recent stuff is not my speed and I won’t be plunking down the $14 or whatever for the new album. But you have to give the woman credit for her honesty. At least she warned us. She basically came right out and said, “I’m changing because I want to be more successful, so deal with it or fuck off.”
The lady is a single parent and if this is how she needs to feed her son or pay for his college education, good on her. I won’t help her, but I respect it and I won’t trash her for it. Hey, I got Girlysounds and Guyville out of the deal, so I’m happy.
You know, I like “Exile in Guyville” and “Girlysounds” and “Supernova” as much as the next person, but even back then Liz Phair gave me an extremely desperate PLEASE LOVE ME kind of vibe.
I realize her last record was different from her others, but for critics to call her a sellout is uncalled for. People do experiment with music and it is her livelihood, where she can’t always bank on her fan base from back to the Girlysound days to sustain her but she needs to go out and garner new fans. I know a number of people who loved her last CD, and after hearing her first 3 (not counting Girlysounds) love her even more because they see her as an artist. I’ll support my artist whichever direction she goes. If everyone dropped an artist for trying something different, think of how much good music we’d miss out on.
nice airbrushing. didn’t she have a kid?? stretch marks??
not every woman gets stretch marks, retard.
oh my. how i miss the old liz. almost as much as i miss real national leadership. almost.
hey gummer why be a tease? want the full versions?

Where’s the love for Whip-Smart?
I see the name “Liz Phair” and immediately I hear the opening chords of ‘Supernova’ in my head.

Funny, she used to titillate me with her words, now she has to wear a see through shirt to come even close.
MIF!
that warning should have read Not Safe For Viewing Ever Anywhere Ever.
Missed the ‘L’, marlon?
And what can I say…oh, Liz.
Maybe he ment Mom I’ve Fucked.
old liz phair is to new liz phair as
old sassy is to new sassy.
the betrayal of “new” sassy was too much for most of us to bear. ditto for liz phair.
sassy’s “cute band alert” used to have integrity damn it. integrity! what happened?!
No-talent poseur–always was.
Hey, I still like her. Yes, her style has totally changed but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy both versions of her.
If we can replace F with it’s PH phonic equivalent in this instance, I think MILF stands for “Meh … It’s Liz Phair.”
Ah, the well-documented demise of Liz Phair.

In the end Liz needs to satisfy one person … herself.

She defines “sellout”
is it just me or does she look like ann coulter?
