No. All we got is the shitty Canadian venue on tv. Also I’m avoiding it because I think Live 8 is utter shit considering you’ve got people who can contribute and yet no money is being made at all.

  4. YES

    Oh god I love this.

  5. Is that Michael’s Stripe?

  6. Matt  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

What station was the REM performance on? The only thing thats on by me is the MTV Live 8, did I miss something? Cause this is pretty shitty.

  7. Is anyone else baffled why VH1 and MTV are showing the exact same performances? What a fucking waste.

  8. God, I hate Rachel Perry!

On TV and AOL. I think this is one situation where I’m confident ((or, at least, don’t care)) that doesn’t make me a geek.

why did they cut off the killers?

are they going to show the cure?

MTV has made watching unbearable. Fuck it. I’m giving my money to the World Bank.

  18. toddc  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

I hate to give AOL credit, but they’re doing a great job. The “World Feed” on AOL is what MTV should be doing. It’s cool to be able to switch from one venue to the other. So far Coldplay and Madonna have been my faves with U2 being the biggest flop thusfar.

  19. Although I think Geldoff is a little much I did like “I Don’t Like Mondays” and the Scissor Sisters were really good.

  20. Does anyone know why MTV Networks keeps cutting off acts? I’m losing interest in this broadcast. I hope ABC doesn’t just recycle this feed for tonights broadcast.

    anyway,
Brad Kava of the San Jose Mecury News is sort of live blogging it

“Am I really hearing Kanye West telling me that AIDS was created by people to kill people in Africa, the way that crack was invented to kill the Black Panther Party?”

  21. drea  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

Okay, now I’m ready to turn off MTV/VH1. They one U2 song, they cut off The Killers, and on with such annoyances.. but they played the whole of three Linkin Park +Jay-Z songs? WTF?

  22. ASSSSSTRONAUT!  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

    sounds like kareoke!

  23. cory  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

I heard a rumour that Bob Dylan & Eddie Vedder will be the last act in Philly. Anyone else hear this?

  24. Na-Na-Na-Na. Na-Na-Na-Na. Hey Hey Hey. Snoop Dog?!

  25. Fred  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

Say what you want…and I do think she’s still whack…but damn that Mariah Carey can sing. Maybe Britney should take notes.

  26. Randy Jackson is playing keyboards with Mariah Carey right now.

  27. Nocturne  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

Was it just me, or did Richard Ashcroft look a lot better than he did whenever he was at his height with his former band The Verve? He almost looked doable. I’m still surprised he even wanted any part in it, considering their Rolling Stones ripoff pretty much caused the demise of them. But I guess it was publicity for him and for a good cause.

  28. Adam  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

They just sampled the underchords of a symphonic recording of a rolling stones song but thanks to the lovely management of mick and Co now the whole song is credited to them. Aha! I <3 Lawyers

  29. Jeff B.  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

I don’t watch MTV to see spliced up performances of some of the richest, most spoiled musicians in the world telling me to care about starving peeps in some 3rd world country.

I just wanna see their “CRIBS”.

thanks MTV, I had no idea that 1 billion people on the planet live on less than $1 a day. I thought EVERYONE got to live for free in huge ass pads in the ‘real world’, get their rides ‘pimped’, go on ‘spring break’, break expensive shit with Bam and Ash, or get a tv show just because your last name is Simpson or Osbourne (not real popular African names).

At least the real “wildboyz” in Africa get to eat bugs and live in the jungle. EVERYDAY.

  30. lester mercury  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

don’t watch it on TV..youth of Amerika…listen to it on the BBC’s live stream…www.bbc.co.uk

    enjoy

  31. Courtney  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

MTv & VH1 stink! Im so happy though that they showed Coldplay and Richard Ashcroft’s collaboration. AOL’s feed is the best by far

I’m hoping they release a DVD of AOL’s coverage.

  32. clashed  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

anyone see Pete Doherty & Elton? local radio only aired the Elton songs

  33. TV coverage has been rather “TRL” so far, but did you expect any different? AOL is doing a fantastic job – favorites so far have been Madonna, the killers (have they been practicing? they sound much better than their god awful live performances from the summer of ’04) and the sgt. peppers opener

  34. They cut off the Who, the fuckers, shit, even if you wanted to “live” blog it, you’d be “live” blogging the fucking ads, the editing is shit. Alirghty then, carry on…

  35. Adam  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

I can’t believe how awful the MTV coverage is.

I think it’s just basically about as bad as TV can get without you actually being electrocuted.

  36. i “won” a blogging press pass for the paris live8, and then it fell through. all the bloggers promised passes in tokyo, berlin, rome, and paris got the shaft.

    nice planning on their part…

  37. I was totally not paying much attention, then I just turned it back on. I had forgotten about the pink floyd reunion thing. and honestly, I had been feeling a little crappy about it. but I can’t help it, they sounded so amazing. I sat there, kind of awestruck watching it happen.

and then the announcers broke in, and I wanted to kill them.

  38. Justin  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

yeah, what a mess. Between MTV, VH1, MTV2 and VH1 Classic, there’s really no reason that a single act should have been cut off or any song missed. Can’t believe they go from an amazing performance to a commercial for some suck ass new MTV show.

Of course, the upcoming seaon of Punk’d looks delightful!

  39. Jeff B.  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

I’ll have to go back thru my dvr recording, but if I’m not mistaken, Linkin Park and Jay Z got more screen time than The Who and Pink Floyd COMBINED!

Considering how many times I’ve heard the douchebag announcers say something along the lines of ‘most of you probably weren’t even alive for the original Live Aid’ pretty much sums it up.

the only excuse for the constant interruption by the veejays would be to ask for donations, not to check out MTVnews.com. Utterly ridiculous.

  40. MTV is showing a taped Jet performance instead of a live Paul McCartney version of “Hey Jude.”

  41. MTV is showing a taped Jet performance instead of a live Paul McCartney performance of “Hey Jude.”

  42. Beth  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

LIke I care to hear the insipid comments of idiot VJ’s about global economic problems. Play the fucking music, you tools.

  43. Trust me, they MUST’VE come a long way since 1985 and they were only contending with 2 concerts, not 5 or 6. They showed Martha Quinn singing along more than the actual bands and the shots of Marc Goodman sitting cross legged in short shorts was Xrated. Yikes. the Live Aid dvd couldn’t show half of the good stuff that happened because the coverage was so awful.

  44. The DVD better have McCartney on there…I didn’t want to see Jet and I didn’t want to see Stevie Wonder…I wanted to see Floyd and McCartney. Screw you MTV and Vh1 your coverage sucked,.

  45. Well, the good old BBC just showed every second of every act from hyde park throughout the whole day, obviously with no adverts, and they are now embarking on covering the Philly show too, makes paying the licence fee all worth while… (if anyone actually pays it that is… not sure i know too many people who do).
And if you have BBC digital tv you can pick any uninterupted coverage from the 8,9,10…? venues around the world.

Oh and Scissor Sisters ruled, along with an amazing rough as fuck version of Helter Skelter by Macca.
    God bless auntie beeb.

  46. The end of the MTV and VH1 coverage was very… ignorant.

One of the fucking idiots on there goes “Log onto Vh1.com or Mtv.com to learn more about what Live 8 does..blah blah blah…:

And then one of the other MTV idiots goes “Let’s go get a cheesesteak!:

It’s like wow, you didn’t learn anything did you?

Talking about world hunger and other problems and then the last thing you say is let’s go get some food that people in Africa can’t have?

    Wow.

  47. April May  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

Honey, I WAS THERE AND IT WAS SUPERB! :) Michael Stipe was delicious as usual, Pete Doherty joined Elton John in “Children of the Revolution” (stunning makeup!), and Richard Ashcroft played “Bittersweet Symphony” together with Coldplay. The Velvet Revolver was amazing and The Scissor Sisters did a new song!! It does not get much better than this in one’s lifetime! Only wish The Killers played more than one song! Hell, they even let Snow Patrol play two. (Is there no justice in this world?) Brad Pitt, Bill Gates, David Beckham and the lads from Little Britain are all there to introduce the acts. Totally wiped out now from dancing and singing all day — off to bed, so hope you all enjoyed the show!

  48. UglyRedHonda  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

Actually, the Live Aid DVD was limited because Geldolf told all of the carriers (BBC, ABC, MTV) to destroy their footage after the show was over. (Geldolf promised the bands that the show wouldn’t be archived, since most of the bands knew their performances would be sub-par granted the technical limitations.) The BBC and MTV largely ignored him, but ABC followed suit.

Any *working* links to torrents or wmv files of the INCREDIBLE Pink Floyd set or Roxy Music?

    this link is shite:

    http://yee.is-useless.org/Live%208%20-%20Pink%20Floyd%20(webcast).wmv

  50. I was in Philly. Rob Thomas was horrible. Highlights included Will Smith doing Summertime. Yeah, Will Smith was fun. Maron 5 covered Neil Young. Jay Z gave the best actual performance imo. Stevie Wonder was cool, but no real finale. Man, whose dick did Rob Thomas Suck? Beyonce is hot.

  51. I missed almost all my favourite bands, so if anyone knows where to download footage, stop by my blog and leave a comment.

I fully understand MTV’s desire to remind viewers at regular intervals exactly what the purpose of the concert series is. You know what would help inform viewers while not cutting off legendary performances and subjecting millions to the babbling brook that is Rachel Perry? A fucking TICKERTAPE. If it works for CNN, it’ll work for you too, assholes. It’d probably have a better personality than your VJs anyway.

And can we take a second to stop complaining about rich celebrities taking time out of their day to play a benefit concert? Because last I checked, you’re the one sitting on your ass watching television. Paul McCartney probably opted out of a 10,000 dollar manicure today so he could play a concert for free, and you can’t do anything but complain about it? Christ.

  55. scriptgrrl  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

The MTV coverage blows. Thank God for AOL, as I’m slowly making my way through the other cities.

This concert just shows that Coldplay is not a stadium/anthemic band. U2 is, proving it both in ’85 and now. Queen perfected it in ’85 too. Make sure you go to the Paris feed, because Muse rocks hard. We haven’t seen them in giant US stadiums yet, but I bet it won’t be long. Too bad no one else saw them outside of France.

  56. bullrider  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

Here’s a torrent of an AVI of the complete Pink Floyd set. Video resolution is on the low side but it sounds great.

  57. Can anyone tell me what ricky gervais did, and where on the london broadcast i could find it?

needless to say, a video of it would be amazing too.

u2 a dissapointment? where do you come up with it? also…i saw a pig fly yesterday, and then pink floyd reunites. coldplay, well done, and cheers to ashcroft.

Regards to the hometown of Barrie.

  60. UglyRedHonda  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2005

Gervais imitated the music for the audience to repeat, then attempted the infamous dance from The Office. Hilarious.

I think he then introduced R.E.M. (Maybe?)

  61. Alicia K  |   Posted on Jul 3rd, 2005

I think ABC’s 2-hour highlight show tonight showed more music than MTV did. Pathetic.

I’d been saying that U2′s “One” hasn’t held up well live this tour, but their performance of it today was really lovely.

Thought Madonna, Annie Lennox and Kanye West were groovy.

  62. All you that didn’t turn off your TV’s and run to AOL’s webcast really missed out. With Aol I caught all the shows, it was honestly the most impressive webcast I’ve witnessed. Highlights from some of the shows, by J.Green:

London: Madonna was impressive, aside from the Kabbalah background I really enjoyed her set. Robbie Williams absolutely turned the entire park out. I never really liked him before, but man does he know how put on a show. Razorlight was not bad. The Who were kind of disapointing, bland I found. Killers should have been allowed more then one song, as they killed it. Pink Floyd was quite impressive although at times it was apparent their voices are not what they used to be.

Philadelphia: Linkin Park and Jay Z stood out. Linkin Park played hard, and Jay showed up big. Will Smith was great on Summertime. Wasn’t too impressed Stevie Wonder too be honest.

Toronto: Disapointing except for the Neil Young finally. It sounded a little contrived but I enjoyed it. The hip played well , as did Blue Rodeo, but some of the of the other performers were subpar to say the least. Celine Dion by satellite, ugh.

Germany: Only caught the Green Day set. Their cover of Queen just sounded weird. Plus it’s kind of out of place to be shouting “We are the Champions” at a benefit concert, kind of kicking them when their down, no?

Paris: Only caught the Craig David bit. Seemed a little cheesy, and I don’t think the crowd was very into him. Did high energy songs unplugged which is nice at a bar, but less effective when you need to entertain 2 hundred thousand people.

Rome: Appreciated some of the Italian singers, but Duran Duran just doesn’t do it for me.

Over all thought the concerts were just amazing, with the London one just blowing everyone else out of the water. I am really impressed how smooth the show went. Those are my opinions, but I’d like to end this comment with a question; did anyone else find it kind of unsettling that these shows were being put on at substantial cost, and no money at all was even atttempted to be raised?

Anyways, goodnight and have a nice Sunday.

    James

  63. did anyone mention pink floyd. holy shit, they’re back. i never saw that day coming. seriously, expecially with roger waters. god damn.

  64. damn it! there was some great (unfamiliar) alternative rock band on the ROME stage yesterday, but no one said who they were. Anybody know where to get the schedule for the ROME shows from yesterday? Whoever that band was were shockingly great!

Pink Floyd was incredible (I almost cried cuz Roger Waters almost cried – during ‘Wish You Were Here’).
Madonna was great, up until the end of ‘Ray of Light.’ Will somebody tell here she CAN’T SING those long HIGH NOTES at the end of the song – I had to cover my ears she was so out of tune!!

And by the way, U2 was great as usual – not a “FLOP” as some idiot said earlier.

  65. loveanddeath  |   Posted on Jul 3rd, 2005

    Likes: Commercials, my channel changer

Dislikes: Live 8-Barrie, The person who willingly gave Tom Green a microphone and willingly turned that microphone on and then willingly performed several soundchecks in order to make sure said microphone would work when Tom Green used it.

that being said, was kind of like a hideous car wreck wasnt it? it’s wrong to stare at the carnage but you just can’t look away.

  66. Vegas  |   Posted on Jul 3rd, 2005

What rocked: U2, Madonna, REM, Robbie, Pink Floyd, Killers, The Who, McCartney, Coldplay,

What sucked: Mariah Carey – who was an embarrassment to humanity, frankly.

  67. Loved: AOL webcast (saw most of London, some Philly, bits of Berlin, Paris and global feed).
Liked: Floyd reunion (of course, hands down the best); Kanye West; the babe with the tambourine in Roxy Music; Macca doing “Helter Skelter”; Daltrey’s scream; Jay-Z; new fave Axelle Red doing some Gaellic murdering of what sounded vaguely like Miss You while wearing a dish towel.
Disliked: The Cure and Roxy Music, both a letdown; Scissor Sis’s; Mariah Carey.
Only real quibble: I didn’t see a minute of the Pet Shop Boys from Moscow. Was there no TV, or did I somehow miss it?

  68. Jenny  |   Posted on Jul 3rd, 2005

Hmm, I just didn’t watch. Oh well I’ll just rent the DVD when it comes out.

  69. st peppers – oh my fucking god, possibly the best thing U2 has ever done.

  70. the best coverage was by far AOL, where you could pick which city you wanted without annoying interruptions and commercials. i thought pink floyd’s performance was definitely one of the best of all the shows. it was good to see them hugging at the end of the set.

  71. drewo  |   Posted on Jul 3rd, 2005

The AOL coverage was good for a while until my Safari browser couldn’t handle all the switching from location to location and finally went on the fritz.

DL’d the Pink Floyd performance later on and was quite impressed. Gilmour has turned into an old blues man. And he clearly still has the guitar chops. It’s interesting to see how it has become his band, where Waters had once dominated. Even Gilmour’s singing clearly surpasses Waters. But it was nice to see Roger so gracious, and seemingly happy. There is a genuine affection among the band members. Could they possibly record together again and/or tour? That might be asking too much.

But they can still rock – even if it was a greatest hits set. Caught a shot of Bono watching the Floyd. It was the pupil at the foot of the teacher.

  72. where’s Radiohead during all this?

  73. This is a banal observation…. but I noticed in ABC’s highlight show they edited out “bullshit” from Pink Floyd’s “Money” but not the “who the fuck are you”, from The Who’s “Who are you”.

  74. carolina  |   Posted on Jul 3rd, 2005

MTV and VH1 you SUCK. You call yourself a music channel but yet you can’t even show the “Legends” perform. ABC did better job than you did. Next do yourself a favor and only hire the “Senior Vj’s” as they are the only educated few who know A. About the Live 8 cause and B. Know about the music. Uhhhh they all sucked Rachel Perry is annoying. I hope Live 8 airs a DVD.Also if your going to show clips show all the city’s it’s as if they only went with what “Pop” Hello did anyone forget that like BJork performed and she is awesome LIVE. Here’s my personal highlights.
London ruled by far: U2 one that song is has great lyrics, Coldplay and Rich Ashcroft,Pink Floyd wow that gave me goosebumps, Madonna come one she turned it out with Like A Prayer that was great!!!!!, Scissor Sisters, The Killers, Sir Paul, Philly:, Black Eyed Peas with the Marley family “Get up Stand Up”, Germany: Green Day was o.k. with Amercian Idiot but the song is like over and done with already, A-Ha, Take on me come on the 80″s, Tokoyo:Bjork “All IS Full of Love”, great.Everything else sucked. I was very sad That Annie Lenox performence was very Dull. The Finale at london with “Hey Jude” was great I was just annoyed that not everyone stayed behind to sing it. I mean if you lasted that long to perform all day might as well tough it out and sing at the end. Also Chris Martin daughter is a doll. Cute kid.And what the FUCK was Paris Hilton doing in the audience I can Totally picture it now.
LIVE 8 REPORTER: HOW IMPORTANT IS THIS CAUSE TO YOU AND WHY ARE YOU HERE TONIGHT?

pARIS: UMM. WELL LIKE I LIKE THE BANDS CAUSE THIER “HOT” AND “SEXY” AND I LOVE MADONNA AND ALSO POVERTY SUCKS I KNOW HOW IT FEELS CAUSE LIKE I DID THE SIMPLE LIFE BUT LOOK AT MY HUGE DIAMOND RING”….

  75. How amazing woz the Pete Doherty/Elton John thing? I want da whole thing on dvd, duz n e 1 no if it will be out?

  76. Clashed  |   Posted on Jul 3rd, 2005

    live8(dot)atspace(dot)com

for downl oads of all the London acts

  77. MTV Latin America did a very good job here.

They didn’t cut anything, it was an ads-free broadcast (which is EXTREMELY unusual on MTV) and there wasn’t any stupid VJ talking bullshit like MTV USA did. I think that the “version” of MTV Latin America was the most similar to the AOL one.

BTW, I laughed my ass off with Keane yelling at the audience at the beginning of his performance. Yay!

Annie Lennox was SO vapid! I expected more from her.

  78. kakvox  |   Posted on Jul 3rd, 2005

U2 and Pink Floyd were the absolute highlights for me. I didn’t catch every act, but Live 8 seemed pretty much a success.

  79. What a horrible waste of time.

  80. kakvox  |   Posted on Jul 3rd, 2005

Wow, when was saving lives considered a waste of time? I swear, some people just don’t get it…

  81. jimbo  |   Posted on Jul 3rd, 2005

As a Canadian I must say that I’m DEEPLY disappointed in our concert effort, although I really enjoyed the part where the audience booed Celine Dion. I caught all the London acts on AOL and all I can say is WOW wish I was there.
AOL did a fantastic job except they left off the Tokyo broadcast. I need my BJORK!!! Does anybody have a video capture of her performance?

  82. I’m very, very glad that I could watch the show on the BBC, they did a great job.

The best things came from London, with awesome stuff from U2, Richard Ashcroft, The Who and Flyod.

Razorlight was also kicking a lot of ass!

  83. callingyououtkakvox  |   Posted on Jul 4th, 2005

How’s this saving lives? I can see for a miniscule second on how it would bring to our attention of what is sadly old news, but I wouldn’t say a free concert is saving lives.

After all the hype, how many of you are actually going to do anything about proverty?

The people who are picketing before the G8 summit is something worth talking about.

Anyways, I caught the only good thing about the Barrie concert and that was Neil Young belting out “Keep On Rocking in the Free World!”

  84. Grimmone  |   Posted on Jul 4th, 2005

Yeah why was Mariah there!? Does she have an understanding of the whole G8 conference and really feels compelled or was it because ending African Poverty is the cause de jour this year just like “Vote or Die” was last year, I’m sure next year the cause de jour will be the whales and she will be headlining that concert to save them. And what was up with the kids dressed in the African garb who came out during her set!? You know once she got backstage, she was like “GET THESE FU***** KIDS AWAY FROM ME!!!!”

I was suprised that Paris Hilton didn’t come out and say “Like go to the website and put pressure on those G8 Guys, cause like being poor totally sucks”!

Worst for me;was the coverage on MTV and VH-1, yes Rachel Perry and that Vanessa chick were really annoying! And to whom ever said they couldn’t believe that Linkin Park and Jay-Z had more airtime then Pink Floyd and the Who I totally agree! What the hell was up with that!? Mariah Carey see my rant above and most of the Philly line up,instead of Bruce or Dylan there was Toby Keith WTF!? Wondering if he did his song about putting a boot up a terriorists ass. Maroon 5 doing a really lame version of “Keep on Rockin in the free world” and the Maroon 5 set in general.

Best: Reunited Pink Floyd, that was just freakin amazing! It was worth sitting through all the crap to hear them. I wish I had seen Neil Young I always think he is amazing. Green Day the one song I saw was awsome. Velvet Revlover, Weiland was channeling Freddy Mercury.

  85. Jaclyn  |   Posted on Jul 4th, 2005

I agree the coverage on tv was horrible! I don’t get why they pretty much didn’t even show anything live as it was happening. It was on all day long there was no reason why they couldn’t go from place to place and show a VARIETY of music so that all fans of music got to see something they liked! They kept showing the same stuff all day, I think I saw that horrible Queen cover from GreenDay about 8 times! Muse in Paris were awesome! There was even an article in the NY Post on Friday saying that they were the band to watch because they put on an amazing live show but of course MTV and VH1 would never put anyone like that on their channels. It was definately so much better to watch on the computer!

  86. Grimmone  |   Posted on Jul 4th, 2005

If you go to the BBC webpage there are two very funny interviews with Mariah Carey and Madonna.

In the Mariah Carey interview the interviewer asks her if she has ever seen the Who live and she says no and then he asks her what her favorite Pink Floyd song is and she pauses and someone in her group yells out Dark Side of the moon and then after five minutes she says Another Brick in the Wall is her favorite, I’m sure her PR person was the one who yelled out DSOTM and the whispered in her ear Another Brick in The Wall.

In the Madonna one the interviewer asks if she has ever been to Africa and Madonna says no but she knows all about the causes that effect Africa from Bill Clinton and Angelina Jolie.

  87. callingoutcap  |   Posted on Jul 4th, 2005

    It’s saving lives because:

    1. Brings debt drop to attention of G8 summit right around the corner
    2. Freeing up money in these African countries budgets allows for monies to be used for education, infrastructure, and health concerns(drugs for AIDS, malaria, etc.)
    3. More will live who are educated, treated, and given a f%cking chance in life.

    That’s how… (in a nutshell, of course)

Paris Hilton was there in London along with Kim Stewart. I think its a great idea and I wish that it would bring attention to the G8 Conference about ending poverty and I know there are artists who were on the bill and the celebs who are commited to this cause and it seemed as if they were there for all the right reasons i.e Roger Waters, Bono, Paul McCartney, Angelina Jolie, Natalie Portman, The Marley’s, Neil Young etc all. But there were some i.e Mariah Carey, Madonna, Paris for the PR to make themselves look like good people.

When the Live 8 DVD’s come out pay attention to what companies are involved…..if MTV Corp. has anything to do with the creation of these DVD’s boycott this thing….download it for free and copy it for your friends…

If its put together by someone else and the money is going to go towards helping then go out and buy it.

Okay now the G8 and the cause of ending poverty in Africa have offically become this year’s trend de jour…..from today’s IMDB news
Hilton Ashamed of Live 8 Ignorance

Hotel heiress Paris Hilton is so ashamed she attended London’s Live 8 gig on Saturday even though she knows little about African poverty, she’s vowed to study the issues while planning her forthcoming wedding. Scissor Sister Ana Matronic slammed Hilton for attending the concert without understanding its key aim of persuading leaders of the eight largest industrial nations to cancel debt in the developing world, double the aid budget and rewrite global trade laws. But Hilton insists she will make amends by reading about it while she’s preparing for her marriage to Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis. She says, “It’s such a great cause. It makes you realize how fortunate we are. I want to get more involved in this cause, so I’m going to read all the newspapers while I’m in Athens planning my wedding.”

I’m sure she is going to read up on it and get more involved just like she did with last years presidential election!

I was at the London concert in Hyde Park. Truely amazing. U2 and Sir Paul McCartney opened the day with a brilliant first ever live performance of Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Pink Floyd were every bit as amazing as I expected them to be showing they’ve still got that edge to them that seperates them from the rest.

Robbie Williams tore the place down with an energetic 4-song set including an emotional crowd-warmer ‘Feel’.

I thought The Who were fairly average but still enjoyed their set. The same goes for Coldplay and Travis.

I’m not huge fans of Madonna, Razorlight or Keane, but I thought they played pretty good sets. Sting was of course one of the highlights of the day.

There were many acts playing London’s Hyde Park that usually I’m not a huge fan of, but on saturday I loved them all. Every single band up on that stage was playing for a very good cause, and every single one seemed really “into” it if you know what I mean. Everyone enjoyed a really fantastic day.

No-one’s yet said anything about the speeches made by several people on the stage. I thought Bob Geldof’s speech which included the video of starving children in Africa was extremely well put. Also I thought Will Smith’s “Every three seconds” speech in Philadelphia was very well put. It certainly put the realization of the amount of people dieing in Africa, into my mind.

Sorry I babbled on for so long, I just felt I had to get my point across.

Sorry, I must be blind or something. I just realized this thread is ‘Not Live Blogging Live 8′. Nevermind though, eh.

Anybody got the feeling that the shitty MTV coverage was more like an informercial for how great the Live 8 DVD is going to be?
OR perhaps some moron programming chief there at MTV networks thought it would be a good idea to cut off songs because of some hack market research that showed that the TRL generation does not have the attention span for an entire three minute performance.

    MTV/VH1 is fucking ridiculous.

I don’t know why I feel the need to comment, but whoever said they saw Bono watching Floyd … I’m pretty sure U2 flew to Vienna for their concert shortly after they performed.

That wasn’t Pink Floyd, that was Prank Floyd. Gilmour can’t sing worth a crap compared to Waters. It would be like the Rolling Stones on stage and Jagger doesn’t sing! I don’t care if Gilmour can carry a tune, that’s not the point. He’s not Waters.

  99. bjork’s performance was absolutley the worst thing i have ever witnessed. How is she making money standing uo there moving like an idiot to these idiotic beats. Her verses were like a damn 5 minutes apart. Seriously how can anyone like her. SHE SUCKS!!!
