    1st comment…yes!

i have no idea what to say is the summer song this year..

  2. loveanddeath  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

wow ‘lean back’ was the summer song? well I guess there are quite a few unintelligent idiots in the world who can listen to less-than-mediocre bullshit and enjoy it

  3. dawg  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

    Devendar Banhart “Little Boys”

  4. This shit is Bandanas. Hangin on my left side ya thats the crip side.

  5. Welcome to Jamrock by Damian Marley

  6. song of the summer? well, i guess that all depends on how much money sony has to spend on the radio station DJs (zing).

  7. hopefully it’s Jamrock, but that’s probably got too much meaning for this category so it might be the retarded “Hollaback girl”

they forgot some classics: Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz “Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)”

what about big pimpin and H to the Izzo???

  8. Don’t Phunk With My Heart, Black Eyed Peas.
    It’s driving me bonkers!

I’m pulling for the Gorillaz… shika shaka

  9. It’s probably “1 Thing” by Amerie this year.

  10. I will agree that it is “1 Thing,” especially the remix by Siik.

    http://siik.org/audio/amerie-one_thing-siik_remix.mp3

  11. smitty  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

what about the reggaeton remix of “obsession” or “oh” by ciara. I guess. ha. i definitely think “1 Thing” is the song, even though her voice is so generic.

  12. Gorillaz, with an assist from the folks at Apple’s advertising agency.

  13. feel good, inc. or don’t phunk with my heart.

  14. Drewseph  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

Hollaback Girl. It’s too big not be #1, and it teaches children how to spell…

  15. Gabi  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

I don’t know about what you guys are listen non stop in America, but here in Brazil our summer song for this year was Festa no ApĂȘ by Latino, summer is “over” for us but our winter weather is so hot that does not make any difference.

  16. Gabi  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

By the way i like feel good inc.

  17. Rinocerose ?Bitch?

  18. not sure what it will be…but looking back at the past years…i am sure whatever song it turns out to be, everytime i hear it i may or may not want to shoot myself

MY song of the summer will be Hard-Fi — Hard to Beat

  19. “Sho Nuff (Hoes with no Clothes)” by Tela feat. 8-Ball and MJG.

It’s the party jam of the summer!

  20. Nicole  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

Good link, Scott…there was a much longer article in the last Radar on the same topic, if anyone’s interested.

  21. oh, it’s gotta be “summer nights” by Lil’ Rob

  22. Michael  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

Steal my sunshine….remember that? Do ya? That was a summer song…Lean back, bah!

  23. I say “We Belong Together” by Mariah. So, so best.

  24. Glen Frey’s “The Heat Is On”.

  25. mark  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

mike jones! now he’s hot; they all on him.

  26. Imogen Heap – Hide and Seek

  27. Suzanne  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

    What happened to good music?

Drop it like it’s hot came too late.
I’d say anything hip hop. I can’t tell which is catchier than the other…it’s all pretty similar.

  28. r*obox  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

Gorillaz, yo. People loves them “that song from the iPod commercial”.

  29. missy’s-lose control

  30. Fred  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

    30th post bitches!!!!!

Can I get a Woot Woot?

    This shit is bananas!!

  31. Billy K  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

33Hz – “Crazy All the Time”

  32. Lets hope it’s Jamrock, but I do love B-A-N-A-N-A-S when I’m at the club after a few drinks.

  33. Nick  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

    TRAPPED IN THE CLOSET, BITCHES!

  34. Gotta go with Gorillaz…but my guilty pleasure side is screaming Black Eyed Peas…someone shoot me now! :)

  35. Terry  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

    PON DA REPLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. If R.Kelly get’s the summer anthem, I think we should all be indicted. That doesn’t mean it’s not genius.

“1 Thing” is good, but it kinda came out too early. “Pon de Replay” gets my vote.

  37. I was gone for a minute
Now I’m back, let me hit it

    Ah, youth

  38. Heather  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

“Lean Back” for last summer? At least here in B.C. (Canada, yo) it was still Usher and “Yeah!”. But we’re a little behind the times sometimes.

Ooh! The new J. Geils Band song is on!

Summer Anthem 2005 – Gorillaz “Feel Good Inc.”, although if the Transplants had released “What I Can’t Describe” as a single, I’d have voted for that.

  39. Far and way, the summer of 2005 is dominated by gwen and pharrell’s instant cheerleader chant classic ‘hollaback girl.’

and for the record, the summer song of 2004 was NOT that tired-ass ‘lean back.’

the real winner of summer ?04 was Nina Sky’s brilliant “Move Your Body.”

    BELIEVE THAT!

  40. allie  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

“gold digger” by kanye. shit’s hot.

  41. Marcio  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

Hoje Ă© festa lĂĄ no meu apĂȘ
    Pode aparecer vai rolar bundalelĂȘ…

  42. jack  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

anyone who put some lame ass pitchfork-loved act on here as the “summer jam” or whatever needs to be slapped.

    the rulez:
    1. it’s gonna be a hip hop song.
    2. it’s gonna be in the rotation on mtv
    3. mtv is going to claim the song is “spankin’ new” over a month after said song is in rotation
    4. there will be a hard rock live performance on mtv with this act

that said, i vote for mike jones. because he’s mike jones. and because “back then” is a stroke of genius.

  43. ‘Holla back girl’ and ‘We belong together’ are neck and neck, who can say what the next month will bring…

(I’m pulling for Mariah, because she can only get crazier)

  44. shane  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

    “Mother” by Red House Painters

    that shit is TIGHT, yo!

  45. Wisco  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

I wish it were the Kidz Bop version of Since U Been Gone.

  46. JoJo owned summer 2004…LEAVE!

  47. Diana  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

I’ll go for “Feel Good, Inc”. Also, what the shit? “Lean Back” my ass. Possibly “Float On” or one of the neo-80s tracks.

  48. I Nominate “Feels Like it Should” or “Black Devil Car” by Jamiroquai.

  49. Patti  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

    uh…so what happened to 92-95?!

  50. Billy K  |   Posted on Jul 27th, 2005

Thanks for layin’ down the rules, jack. Except that you’re wrong.

  51. I don’t listen to rock or pop radio much anymore, but lots of kids love that FALL OUT BOY song this summer.
If SNOOP’S “DROP IT LIKE IT’S HOT” came out this spring instead of late last year, it would win HANDS down for summer song of this year.
    Who would disagree with that?

The summer song of the last 2 summers (2003, 2004) is “SUCH GREAT HEIGHTS” by the POSTAL SERVICE. Alternative rock stations (and even college stations) just can’t stop playing it cuz it’s… BRILLIANT!

  52. Presto  |   Posted on Jul 28th, 2005

Yea, MIB was a big song but I thought 1997′s summer was pretty much owned by Smashmouth and Third Eye Blind. And what about 1998, was there no summer? was that the year of Carlos Santana’s ‘Smooth”? What’s with this guy’s rap bend and why does the summer of ’87 even get a mention?

Anyway, this summer’s street anthem must be Hollaback Girl because I cannot escape it no matter how hard I try. If only gwen had got mike jones on a remix, then it’d be definitive.

  53. Peck  |   Posted on Jul 28th, 2005

Yeah, summer anthems aren’t all hip hop. All those bands (Smash Mouth, Third Eye Blind, Sugar Ray) had hits that were created and packaged solely for summer listening.

And “Steal My Sunshine” is a summer anthem template.

  54. Mark  |   Posted on Jul 28th, 2005

Me picks for the missing years 88 – 90/92-95

    1988 – Terence Trent D’arby “Wishing Well”
1989 – Neneh Cherry “Buffalo Stance”
    1990 – Madonna “Vogue”
    1992 – Arrested Development “Tennessee”
    1993 – New Order “Regret”
    1994 – Crystal Waters “100% Pure Love”
1995 – U2 “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me”

  55. Ah, but of course the Daily News forgot to mention that they stole the idea for their article from HERE:

    http://amysrobot.com/archives/2005/07/daily_news_disc.php

  56. dkmny  |   Posted on Jul 28th, 2005

how can you forget about lumi dee? 2003 i think.
    that shit is bananas.
also, holla back girl is it.

  57. trishy  |   Posted on Jul 28th, 2005

i thought last year’s big summer song was “Yeah” by Usher?

This year – hard to say…

  58. angie  |   Posted on Jul 29th, 2005

i thought the song of 2004 was my neck my back

  59. patrick  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2005

    Mike Jones “Still Tippin’”

    still in heavy rotation
    catchy as hell
    Paul Wall

Summer jam of 2004, though nowhere nearly as brilliant as Clipse’s “grindin’” or chingy’s “right thur”

and i’m saying this in a strictly non-ironic way. it’s absolutely incredible how so many “indie rock/alternative” folk view hip hop as something kitchy.
snoop dogg is to be admired not just cuz he’s a cultural icon but because of his amazing flow and the hot production that’s behind his songs…..

    bastards!

  60. Nathan  |   Posted on Aug 8th, 2005

As much as I want it to be “Get It Poppin” by Fat Joe f Nelly, that’s not likely to be it :P

Hollaback Girl was played a lot in the clubs…it’d be a good choice. Don’t Cha by the Pussycat Dolls was also played a lot…

How about we let the summer go on forever…and ever…and ever…[fade out]

  61. Quentin  |   Posted on Aug 10th, 2005

Song for last year was hands down JUVENILE FEAT. SOULJA SLIM, SLOW MOTION.

This year, i would hafta say BOBBY VALENTINO, SLOW DOWN

    or down south:
Webbie feat. Bun B GIMME DAT.

  62. Quentin  |   Posted on Aug 10th, 2005

Bobby V. 34 weeks on billboard, topping at number 1

Mariah Carey has a good chance of being at the top behind Bobby and Webbie by summers end

I personally like Boyz in Da Hood, but that is too “Hood” for the Pop lovers out there :/

  63. Doug  |   Posted on Aug 20th, 2005

    Mariah Carey…We Belong Together…without a doubt…the song of the summer (2005)

  64. heather  |   Posted on Aug 20th, 2005

YING YANG TWINS – WAIT (THE WHISPER SONG)

  65. Tish  |   Posted on Aug 20th, 2005

I would say we belong together. I also agree with all those summer anthems. Although I did not like some of the songs they were everywhere.

  66. anna  |   Posted on Aug 20th, 2005

    gasolina

  67. Derrick  |   Posted on Aug 24th, 2005

The song of summer is definitely between
    We Belong Together
    Hollaback girl
    Pon De Replay

  68. dayday  |   Posted on Sep 1st, 2005
