Watch Courtney Barnett & Billy Bragg Cover The Velvet Underground On RocKwiz
Here’s something Wikipedia just taught me: “RocKwiz is an Australian television quiz show series, focused on rock music and featuring different guest artist musicians who perform live in each episode.” That sounds like a great show! I wish we had it over here! A recent episode featured the team of one actual Australian, the great young singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett, and one out-of-towner, the British leftist folk-punk great Billy Bragg, covering the Velvet Underground’s eternal “Sunday Morning.” It’s a lovely, folksy cover with a nice scrappy solo from Barnett, but the real reason to watch it is the way Barnett wears her disbelieving happiness on her face. Barnett’s not really famous yet, but she’s getting there, and she seems to appreciate the living shit out of nearly every step of the process. She also has the best smile in the whole entire game. Watch the performance below.
Barnett’s The Double EP: A Sea Of Split Peas is out now on Mom + Pop, and it rules so hard.
