Saturday Night Live alum Maya Rudolph stopped by her old stomping grounds to impersonate Beyoncé, but her primary area of focus these days is The Maya Rudolph Show, an old-fashioned primetime variety show that debuted last night. Inspired by the likes of Carol Burnett, Rudolph’s first show featured comedy sketches, a live band led by Raphael Saadiq, cameos by fellow SNL expats Andy Samberg, Fred Armisen, and Chris Parnell, and musical guest Janelle Monaé. So it’s basically exactly the kind of show we already know Rudolph thrives in. Watch Monaé perform a Solange-free version of “Electric Lady” in typically show-stopping fashion below.
