I’ve always wondered about the level of reality in that show. Actually, I’ve always wondered about the level of reality in any so-called reality show. LB explains the Journey song in the top 10, but what’s with “Seasons of Love”? “Rent” the movie doesn’t come out until X-Mas. Is it cool to like musicals now? ‘Cause if it is, maybe I can finally sit at the cool table! I’ll bring the “42nd Street” soundtrack and my tap shoes and we can all shuffle off to Buffalo. Jazz hands!
Hmm I downloaded “Don’t Stop Believin’” this week, but it was because I saw it on Family Guy, definitely not any influence from Laguna Beach.
There’s no way it’s real. Just watch any interior scene, they have multiple cameras set up (NOT handheld) to take different angles, and the kids are perfectly framed in almost all of the shots. Not only that, but the cameras occasionally anticipate the movement of of characters way too precisely to be spontaneous.
Now compare that with, say, The Real World, where the cameras are all handheld, often miss alot of the important action, characters are constantly moving out of frame, etc. Ever wonder why the rooms in the Real World house are so big? It’s so they can get multiple camera crews in the room. If they ever have to shoot at a “normal” location, say an office, there’s always one camera.
It’s not real.

Are we supposed to pretend we watch this show? Does anyone over the age 15 still watch anything on this network? Has it gotten to the point where hipsters claim to watch this stuff ironically, or is it just that hipsters have outcooled themselves out of any normal enjoyment of decent popular culture, such that MTV is the only remaining form of entertainment that has been sufficiently pre-masticated for them to digest.
And, yes… if there was a mad rush to download Journey this week, you better believe it was because of Adult Swim showing repeats of a recent Family Guy episode that featured a very funny karaoke version of the song. It sure as hell wasn’t due to some episode of the newest pile of shit MTV has chosen to pile onto the existing pile of shit that is their program schedule.
i fucking love laguna beach. i’ve watched it faithfully since it began. i adore kristen. she’s so real, you know? and i loved the “since you’ve been gone” montage this past episode. nice picture!
hey, don’t stop believing is an awesome song. and the ability to buy it on itunes without buying the rest of an awful journey record likely made it a hot seller. or not. maybe their record company promised celine dion tickets to steve jobs.

I hate the “I know a guy who knows (insert douchebag celeb here) and he said…” stories as much as the next guy, but a friend of mine went to school with Kristin when she used to live in Chicago (and calls her to get that taste of C-list celebrity every once in a while) and claims that the show is basically exaggerated re-enactments of real things that happened in their oh-so-dramatic lives as rich young adults. I’ve never heard of a more retarded idea, but everyone still freaks the f out when there’s a new episode.

THANK YOU(for finally confirming my thoughts on this show) I caught some of it last summer, and was vaguely intriuged. But the more times i saw the recent rebroadcasts the more annoyed i got at myself for ever getting sucked in, cause it seemed so contrived. The montages are the WORST!
What’s really funny is how half the time the songs they play(if you listen to the words) contradict whats actually happening, or supposedly happening.Case in point: at the very end of season 1 when lauren and steven “drive off into the sunset together” they play that Maroon5 song abt a girl who “always belonged to someone else” when it was her who’d been pining for him.

I just watched my first episode of the show, and it was so obviously a fake.
It had a guy named Jason surfing with another mate (actor), they get out of the surf and talks to 2 other cast members who just happen to be walking past (2 girls who invite them both to a card night) and he only sports a goatee.
Then later on the same day he sports a full beard on his way to the card night. I don’t mind if stuff is fake, but why the charade. The show made a big deal in the opening credits about how it was all real.
This is probably the worst show in history – a soap opera advertised as being real, when it clearly as fake as it gets.

To the whole Journey thing above, I am 23 and have been jamming to Journey since I was a kid. All you people hear it on LB or the Family guy and run out to get it like it’s the next big hit but I’ve had the album for like 12 years and I listen to every song on it. What happened to people listening to music because it sounds good not because it was on a hit show on tv. Get your own taste and some music awareness poeple, the song was written when your parents were in high school.

The stars of the show are, in fact, actual kids from Laguna Beach and, to boot, appear in the Laguna Beach High School yearbook as 2004 graduates (the exception is junior clique queen Kristin Cavalleri, who is a year younger) under the same names they use on the show: Lauren Conrad (LC), Stephen Colletti, Lauren Bosworth (Lo), Trey Phillips, Dieter Schmitz, Morgan Olsen etc. As for the rumored photo album belonging to Lo, complete with captions showing different names: It?s fake, as determined through our investigations and some egregious photoshop work.

Don’t hate me for writing this, I’m not wanting to get into a big fight with some stranger over a show like Laguna Beach. You do have a right to your opinion, and I understand where you are coming from.
I would just like to say I agree 100% with Sean, he hit the nail on the head. He’s not proclaiming to be cooler than everyone else, he’s simply stating that this mindless babble that passes for TV nowadays is making our children dumber, and making them look up to shallow stupid people like Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, with their slutty, rediculously expensive clothes and jewelery and their trivial problems like “OMG who should I bang today?” Or even, “Should I videotape it this time?” To all the people that watch this pathetic excuse for a show, go outside, or if your too lazy for that or if your afraid you might get “dirty” then at least watch something meaningful like the discovery channel or the learning channel, because the only thing your going to learn watching crap like Laguna Beach, The OC, and all this reality crap is how stupid America has become that we are actually buying into this shit and people are actually believing its real, or WANTING to BELIEVE its real…get a freaking life.
What is that song that was playing on LB with the kids singing harmony and it sounded like a guy singing? Artist and song if anyone knows.
The name Lauren Conrad, as a gradute of Laguna Beach High School appears 60 times on ClassMates.com. Anybody can put it on that site…that doesn’t mean anything…..
LAGUNA BEACH RULEZ! I love watching the show because it takes away from reality, work, school etc. Wouldn’t it be so cool if life was like that, perfect house, perfect looks, perfect scenery. So for a half an hour, every monday, it takes away from reality and I enjoy it. Why can’t we all just watch it for what it is and not try to over analyze things?? Go with the flow.

I watch the show —i love it. It says it’s a reality show, but i don’t know, if that’s true then @ first I thought kristin was a cool gurl but after backstabbing jess w/jeff then acting like it was no biggie. What a cold, heartless,b*tch!(wata friend?!.) N it totally contradicts the whole chicks over dicks image she trys so hard 2 potray. N can she get over herself already that every1 wants her. (she’s so self-centered) N i think Steven n LC r gonna end up 2gether , it’s only a matter of Steven realizing he has everything he could want n more in her–she clearly luvs him. I think Laguna Beach is somewhat real. It’s real but they tell them what they’ll be doing so they can be there when it happens.I still like the show and for one Jason is stupid and doesn’t look the best.Also, Stephen needs to find someone new and forget about Kristen and L.C.

The funny thing is all of you are crying and most of you are wrong. Yes the people and their identities are in fact real, and no the “drama” on the show in not real. The people all live and went to school in Laguna Beach, but the places and events are all set up. The lines are not scripted(you think anyone can write that babble?). The show is basically a recreation of typical high school drama. Stephen did in fact come up to SFSU, however, nobody up here really seems to see him very much. I work right by where he lived and I did seen him and his friends come in high a couple times late at night last semester(omg stephen and drugs, scandal….). There were never any camera crews following him around waiting for something to happen. The cameras turned on when he was “acting”. So seriously, if you like watching recreations of high school drama, watch it. If you think it’s fake, it is, and don’t watch it. For my part, once you realize it’s fake, then aren’t you just really watching a poorly written TV show at that point? But that’s just me. Do what you want and be happy.

The show sucks. Its a second rate ‘reality’ show with a bunch of spoiled rich kids destined to be spoiled C-listers for the rest of their lives.
They do not deserve fame. Sure they have fortune…only b/c of Mommy & Daddy.

Gorgeous rich gals pulling the “woe is me” thing?? Sorry, I had my share of that in middle school and high school. The sad thing is, college kids are watching this show. I bet we can imagine how “cool” they are. Can we say conformists to the pop culture scene? Maybe not letting go of the teenage years??
The O.C. is a sitcom/drama…point is, its a television show, with a cast (actors) and a script, that is meant to be fake. Laguna Beach, is a second-rate reality version of a good show…making these kids out to be something special…when really, they are the most whiny, dramatic, codependent bunch of spoiled brats I have ever seen!
I love Laguna Beach and I am 30 years old, LOL. I think its great, whether real or fake.

I mean, should we really sit and pick and poke at this show, like 98% of the rest of TV isn’t equally or slightly less as stupid? Come on, who’s got that kind of time? Let go all the anger!
