Anyone hear it? Pitchfork doesn’t know much and Music70 hasn’t been updated.

Stop teasing us Warpbots!

UPDATE: I stand corrected. PFork‘s on top of this story. (Thanks Scott!)

hey, aphex ‘danker’ twin, you should try releasing something more interesting than the silly childish shit of your last two albums. that way you wouldn’t have to be so bitter.

ps your career ended a few years ago. go and mow some people down in a tank-strop.

Okay, I downloaded a version of Campfire via Soulseek. It doesn’t contain any “Old Tunes” tracks, nor does it contain any Freescha tracks or Arovane tracks. There’s much about it that screams “genuine BOC” to me, but I can’t be sure.

The person I downloaded it from locked it off and tagged it as fake a few minutes before I completed download of the final track, but he wouldn’t say why.

I downloaded all the other versions that have been tagged as fake and they all contain the mixture of Freescha, Arovane, old BOC and other random stuff, none of which sounds anything like the possibly genuine version of Campfire I just downloaded.

I guess I’ll only know for sure once the genuine article drops through my letterbox next month, but I do find all this fake palava to be quite amusing. I remember when the Autechre Untilted fakes were doing the rounds. There was one particular version that rabid Autechre fans were screaming “fake” at, proclaiming it to be a definite fake, only for it to turn out to be 100% genuine.

The moral of the story? Even diehard/hardcore fans of the likes of Autechre and BOC sometimes can’t tell a genuine track if it bites them on the ass! Oh, and buy the original CD from a reputable retailer!

track 3 has leaked so if its the same you have then you have the real album…

Does anyone have anyidia what is track 8 on the so called “Freescha” fake -OBC release?

  7. imsadforboc  |   Posted on Sep 4th, 2005

ok so its official , the new BOC album is severely dissapointing! i purchased “Oscar See Through Red Eye” via Bleep.com today and it matches the track of a leak i downloaded off of bittorrent a couple of weeks ago. First thoughts for this album are: NO MORE ANALOGUE :( from the sounds of it theyve decided to abandon hardware and go for a cleaner software sound. the music itself is …well boring :( the complexities of previous albums are gone and the thinner sound of the software synths accentuates this. fuckk this sucks :(

  8. oscar  |   Posted on Sep 5th, 2005

    Love it :)

  9. I as well purchased “Oscar See Through Red Eye” off of Bleep.com. I can’t say i’m dissapointed nor am I impressed. I hope that most of the album doesn’t go in this direction. I’m now wishing they would have waited another year or so to really dig deep into their musical subconcious. Nonetheless i’m not going to let my high expectations ruin the experience. Take it for what it is and move on.

  10. Oscar is tight as hell, not sure what some of you are talking about. So many layers. Their sound just keeps getting more complex, and I dig that. I definitely appreciate the low key, melow, basic tracks they can put out, but tracks like this are genious.

  11. _jebus_  |   Posted on Sep 5th, 2005

Am I the only one who thinks it’s kind of fun collecting all the fake leaks?

  12. Bryan  |   Posted on Sep 5th, 2005

I downloaded Oscar with realistic expectations that were completely blown away. On first listen I was impressed, on second very impressed, and by the third totally enveloped. Except for a break to make dinner I listened to the 5 minute track on repeat for about four hours last night.

I haven’t cracked out on a piece of music like that since Stairway to Heaven when I was 12 years old.

This track is like an exquisitely chisled piece of marble – the attention to detail is astounding! And yet there is no distinct melodic ‘hook’ to refer to when I think back to it – instead I hear melodies from MHTRTC if I try to conjure it up in my head. And so I listen back yet again.

Headphones or superb stereo separation are required to pick out every little detail.

ok so listened to Warps 2 big releases for the near future: BOC’s “Campfire Headphase,” and Broadcast’s “Tender Buttons.” Obviously Campfire has managed to get most of the hype, but i have to admit although the new BOC album is not terrible it is by far their worst release of their phenomenal catalog. On the other hand Broadcasts new album is fantastic! so if youve got to make a choice between the two i HIGHLY recommend “TENDER BUTTONS!” :)

You can listen the 15 tracks of the album on
    http://www.bleep.com/?label=boc but is’s not comfortable.

I prefer to wait the album and listen carrefully.
the first songs are typical boc with acoustic picking guitar. Oscar is a real good track.

um sorry new to this but there are copies of the real album out there now ….and its really fuckin good to have b.oc back again !

  22. Boards Of Canada should have done more for the people of New Orleans after the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. Shame on them.

  23. behn  |   Posted on Sep 9th, 2005

Sorry to break it to you, Peenie…but the link I posted is in fact a link to the .nzb file for the real Campfire Headphase that was posted on the newsgroups. This could be confirmed by listening to snippets of the songs on http://www.bleep.com (which appear to now be down), listening to the BBC broadcast of the track “Chromakey Dreamcoat”, or by purchasing the single from http://www.bleep.com. Check your sources prior to posting so you don’t look so stupid next time…

  24. Peenie  |   Posted on Sep 9th, 2005

    Um.

The BBC broadcast of Chromakey Dreamcoat is completely different to the one on your ‘real’ file.

So is the BBC broadcast of Satellite Anthem Icarus.

So is the Bleep download of Oscar See Through Red Eye!

They all sound different, and have different durations!

    Am I missing something???

i’m quite suprised that (unless i missed it) nobody has commented upon the presence of guitars on the new record. i’ve listened to campfire through just once, but i’m already am convinced that this is the record that geogaddi should’ve been. it’s simply gorgeous, a splendid combination of what i did and did not expect from the “mysterious scottish duo”. tracks of note:

    peacock tail
    dayvan cowbody
    ’84 pontiac dream

i absolutely love the record and don’t know where the doubters are coming from – BoC has delivered.

  28. behn  |   Posted on Sep 9th, 2005

Peenie…you must have dloaded something different than what I posted about. I’m listening to it now and I can assure you that the three tracks you listed as being different are the same as there “officially real” counterparts. The leak I’m talking about is the 192 bitrate rip. I bought the bleep Oscar See Through Red Eye and it is the same (although a higher bitrate) than the same track in the leak that I posted the link to above. Did you actually download this version from the newsgroups? There are 2 fake versions on the newsgroups as well so I’m wondering if maybe you grabbed one of them by mistake if you actually did download this. Don’t know what to tell you other than that…all I know is I have the legit copy of the album and I got it from the newsgroups via the .nzb file I linked above.

  29. Peenie  |   Posted on Sep 9th, 2005

Hey behn – I think I did get a different version.

Anyway – got the real one now!

    Beautiful. Addictive. Confident. Brilliant.

    But not revolutionary.

    Slightly bland? Just slightly.

But I love it. They’re incredible.

Feeling very lucky that I chanced upon this forum and now am one of the few people listening to it!

    Have a nice weekend everybody!

  30. evilhomer  |   Posted on Sep 10th, 2005

i just downloaded it off of usenet and listened to it…

    wow.

Seriously dude, what’s with the doubters? This is a great album. I’m pleased to hear them experimenting with some new sounds and styles. The guitars have been blended in nicely, not too overbearing.

Thank you to whoever leaked this! I can’t wait to buy this one… I now know it won’t be a waste of money, as so many other cd’s often are!

    cheers.

  32. Bob_Hoop  |   Posted on Sep 10th, 2005

    ……the new album is stunning!

So different to MHtRtC and Geogaddi and yet…..it’s unmistakably BOC

Can not wait to purchase my copy in October.

    Thankyou Boards of Canada

  33. twolive  |   Posted on Sep 12th, 2005

…The last BoC is wonderful, very different but very similar.. Their universe is so exciting, so charming and dangerous. The Campfire Headphase is so awfully beautiful, mysterious, shinny and odd. I think those guy’s are of a superior kind, meaning that they think and live on a different planet and share some very small bits and pieces with us every 4 years… I consider myself as a lucky boy as I guess I catch 15% of it all but those 15% are so great to me that it’s already enough…

  34. There is a new track — legitamate — posted on scissorkick.com. Guitars, guitars, guitars.

  35. lamoy  |   Posted on Sep 13th, 2005

This is from a guy who thinks Geogaddi is the best record ever. Oscar See Through Red Eye is a fantastic tune, but I’m very dissapointed with the rest of the album. I do understand that BOC needs to do something different, but I really hope they are done with campfire-guitar tunes when the next one comes out. Peenie thought this was slightly bland and I unfortunately agree. Don’t get me wrong, there are beautiful moments on Headphase besides Oscar, but as a whole it just doesn’t give me goosebumps (apart from Oscar). I sadly think the magic is gone.

  36. Sometimes you can have too much technology. The internet is a great tool but not when it destroys your enthusiasm for an eagerly awaited release… take a step back and listen again – it’s BoC, maybe a little more commercial, but at least buy the album and give them the chance to enrapture us all over again…

  37. Matt  |   Posted on Sep 14th, 2005

Pretty dissapointed with boc. No creepy tunes, no layers. Besides peacock tail, there are no really good tunes. Production excellent but the magic is gone. Everything about this release (title, cover, tunes)is tired. Anyone calling it ‘Classic boc’ is not concerned with hearing anything new. I am, and therefore am gutted.

  38. ptipois  |   Posted on Sep 14th, 2005

If I understand well, there are those who dislike the new LP because it’s not a new MHTRTC and those who dislike it because it’s not a new Geogaddi. Well, what were they expecting from such creative guys, if not that they would obviously go in an entirely new direction while staying true to themselves? Were they hoping they would be repeating themselves? I think this record is awesome. It is a work or maturity, at first deceitfully simple, and very quickly you hear how deep, complex, multilayered and profound it is. It has a new character, a serenity, a gentleness, a sense of loving sadness and affectionate meditation that the previous works lacked. It feels less lonesome, less anxious. As if the dark tensions present in Geogaddi had been released and some nagging questions had been answered. If you really listen for the complexity of this music, you realize the creepiness is still there, but under the surface. I think Geogaddi went very far and very deep, but this goes even farther and deeper. Great work, I’m even more amazed than I expected to be.

To the fools who think BoC are from Canada, can I tell you they most definitely are not. They are from a small suburb of Edinburgh (That’s in Scotland y’all) called Balerno. How do I know, because I’m from there!

Do you really think a band of the subtlety of BoC would put the name of their country in the their band name!!!!

heaven sun moon stars this sure seems legit. 3 of the tracks are definitely released and are correct. (2,3,9) I’m struggling with all the guitar at first listen, but man, brilliant.

    thanks!

  44. Brandon  |   Posted on Sep 16th, 2005

I have listened to BoC easily more than any other artist for over a year now. If the general consensus is correct and the new leak is real, then I sincerely hope that guitars are not a new development in their music. In my opinion, the best tracks on The Campfire Headphase have the least guitar and the only track with guitars that I do like is due to an electronic melody in the background.

The repetition of the acoustic guitars on the tracks here isn’t warm and hypnotic like Gyroscope or Olson, it’s more like the annoying sound of someone trying to memorize a guitar riff. It wouldn’t surprise me if they learned to play guitar for these tracks.

I do like new things and there is some new here. “Oscar See..” is a great track (although I don’t like the handclaps). This is also my opinion, and I am sometimes wrong.

  45. ok this site is down b/c of bandwith lol you guys took it down!!

    http://www.seibuone.com/45rpm/mp3s/

  46. I think they used the guitars just to give listeners the campfire feeling, a feeling sitting on logs around the fire while someone is playing the guitar… Kinda like that. I think they just want to keep the theme of Campfire

  47. I listened to Chromakey for the first time there earlier, and MY GOD! It is excellent! So happy that it wasn’t a disappointment.
    HAIL BOC!

    here is.
NEW BOC nother website download. has to be the real one. HOPE it isn’t cause it sucks, though u gotta love them guitars, violins and REAL BLOODY DRUM KIT. otherwise most sucks. ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND THE SONG THAT WAS ON THEIR WEBPAGE/FLASH ANIMATION BEFORE THEY CHANGED IT REPLACED IT WITH HEADPHASE POSTER? THAT WAS THE BEST SONG EVER….. better than songs on this cd..

  49. mike  |   Posted on Sep 18th, 2005

i just downloaded an entire album in zip format from a website claiming to be the campfire headphase, but there are some discrepancies in the tracks i have and the ones youve listed, namely the time duration of certain songs. i have to say if this is a boc rip off its good, and at parts better, though im not sure we are listening to the same album here, or if in fact they did release some fake songs out there like they did prior to the release of geogaddi?I do hope its not it though because it just isn?t that good, though the album i have [if it or any of it is the real thing] uses a lot of guitar, both acoustic and electric, real drums, and even violins at one point? it is missing the track that was played on their website the past couple months, the one looping with the little flash animation, that was a killer loop and thats what i really want to hear.. so PLEASE don?t let this be it?
into the rainbow vein 0:46-small boc synth loop like all albums have at opening
2.chromakey dreamcoat 5:49- length is different than posted review guitars start the album descending tones sounds like same guitar strum brought down through some processer [sounds like bibio] then straight beats come in [no fancy beats on this record], synth in background, guitar loop continues weird backrond noises, all the usual gorgeous production quality THEN at the end of the song a breakdown of sorts VERY VERY beautiful, probably my favorite part of the whole album , light cracked guitar sounds like tape recording one of those classic catchy loops very light beats and crackling glitch, full acoustic guitar and wall of sound surround you?awesome..again, who knows if its real?? if this isn?t them, i want to know who it is and i want it!
3.satelite anthem icarus -6.06-starts out with guitar, acoustic, looping quite catchy bubbly noises attacking you left and right, bleeps and blips, water running everywhere.. then at the perfect moment synth piano hits the right keys harmonizing like they do so well? can?t help think production quality much different than other albums, feels more raw but still amazing [perhaps real version but not mixed down properly????].. again a song that i think is real, and if it isn?t someone tell me who it is i want it and i want it now.
4.peacock tail – 5:26 ? i dont like this much, pretty straightforward and tune i don?t want playing at houseparties soon sounds hawaiin and happy?? guitars with delay starting it up, bit crunchier beat but very caribbean ? some real drums in there.. then synth pianos come up at the end and save the song but not enough.. whole album up to now is GUITAR DRIVEN.. which would be quite a departure from anything theyve ever attempted.. end of song has that telephaisic workshop build up of ambient sound people speaking at various speeds..
    5. dayvan cowboy-5.02 – now this is the strangest boc song ive ever heard, twangy tremelod electric guitar , some warpy sounds, then the climax real drums kick in with a VIOLIN and electric piano hitting those amazing boc. simple note progression.. so good. also, tell me who could do something like this?
6.a moment of clarity0:53 – like the beginning of geogaddi, low drones, simple boc interlude? lots of phase on this one..
    7. 84 pontiac dream – starts with 1969 like waves, then strange bleeping coming at my right headphone, sounds like theyre cutting real music directly from a mic held up to a television without processing it in any way? quite simple beat again, no songs have any flashy julie and candy/you could feel the sky beats which i was disappointed to hear, because frankly im tired of hearing drum machines spew out trip hop beats no matter how many times you tweak them to sound like aphex twin.. then at the end a deep guitar breakdown, two guitars on either headphone, phase electric and the sound of a river maybe?? okay track

8.sherbert head 2:43 -i quite like this ?spinning plates? interlude, beat-less, tremelo or ring mod shifting room tone and synth speeds up and down up and down while bass line plays over repetetive higher synth

9.oscar see thru red eye5:10 – i know this is the same track from the bleep website because i bought it. and i dont like it.

    10. atarochronon 1:16- sounds like sherbert head.. i hope this one isn?t real because its really unnecessarily similar to that one sounds like noise gate or something not letting the sound all the way through..

11.hey saturday sun 4:58 – starts with deep air sound and some synth then a deep electric guitar chorus sounding starts up with hihat real drum. then a fucking rock song starts up with twang reverbed and metallic guitar compliments the main line, some boards sounding synth.. i guess it would be a departure for them if it really is a boc song, but really many rock outfits have done the same sounding stuff for decades, only better.. there is a nice twirling synth loop that comes in about 3/4 into the song..

12constants are changin 1:44 -interlude of guitar phasing in and out, electric guitar picking with some lazy synth going left to right, playing with air and room tone.. a lot like bibio [the guitarist whose cd marcus eoin released earlier this year also played with ?real sounds? mucked up over time with dirty recording, thick room tone] too short for me to complain but standard nothing special..

13.slow this bird down-6:11 i hope this track is false because i dont like it at all. slow meandering beat at the end here there should be some clever finish to it all, but this is really an anticlimax very basic panning effects no new sounds, beats slow and straight drum machine playing. then at the end something that sounds like gregorian chants slowed down come in and loop around a bit but not enough happens please be fake please.

14:tears from the compound eye4.05? this i like, very boards of canada ?olsen? like ambient loop one of those perfect loops that could go on forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever?

15.farewell fire8:28 – what the fuck is this? shiet thats what it is.. loop, kinda nice boc ambient loop tho not 4/4 over glitching campfire sound lasts forever, maybe attached to secret track?

I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT THERE ARE NO VOCALS ON THIS ALBUM. i was really hoping theyd mess with some after what i heard on their website… but thats nowhere to be found. sorry, really disappointed by this. i hope, by some miracle its a fake. its still good, -dont get me wrong, but for BOC, its not up to snuff.. geogaddi is along with kid a and stars of the lid tired sounds one of the three most important cds in my life… and well, how do you beat that?

  50. mike  |   Posted on Sep 18th, 2005

that said its still a sick album compared to any other recent electronic release , especially end of track 2, track 3, dayvan cowboy, tears from compound eye

  51. By checking out track lenghts on the album that “mike” listened to, on my first “fake” and another album that people claim to be the real thing. They all have different track lenghts. There has to be more then 2 fake albums out there, quite possibly 5.

    “The Campfire Headphase Fake 1″:
    01. Into the Rainbow Vein (0.57)
    02. Chromakey Dreamcoat (4.29)
    03. Satellite Anthem Icarus (1.33)
    04. Peacock Tail (3.42)
    05. Dayvan Cowboy (1.58)
    06. A Moment of Clarity (7.40)
    07. ’84 Pontiac Dream (3.29)
    08. Sherbert Head (4.37)
    09. Oscar See Through Red Eye (4.34)
    10. Ataronchronon (8.12)
    11. Hey Saturday Sun (1.32)
    12. Constans Are Changing (5.13)
    13. Slow This Bird Down (7.31)
    14. Tears From the Compound Eye (3.10)
    15. Farewell Fire (19.44)
    16. Would You Like To Play? (hidden track) (2.32)

This is a great album. 4/5 stars. No analog guitars. Could this be Freescha, I ask myself? Does anyone know for sure if it is?

    “The Campfire Headphase Fake 2″:
    01. Into the Rainbow Vein (0.31)
    02. Chromakey Dreamcoat (5.35)
    03. Satellite Anthem Icarus (5.52)
    04. Peacock Tail (5.12)
    05. Dayvan Cowboy (4.47)
    06. A Moment of Clarity (0.39)
    07. ’84 Pontiac Dream (3.37)
    08. Sherbert Head (2.29)
    09. Oscar See Through Red Eye (4.56) – From bleep.com
    10. Ataronchronon (1.01)
    11. Hey Saturday Sun (4.44)
    12. Constans Are Changing (1.29)
    13. Slow This Bird Down (5.56)
    14. Tears From the Compound Eye (3.51)
    15. Farewell Fire (8.28)

3.5/5 – 4/5 stars. I didn’t like it at first, but a friend of mine loves it and think it is the real thing. After 4 listens, it’s starting to get better. There are some analog guitarr loops on this one.

Now this is interesting. Started searching for the Campfire Headphase on Soulseek. And I found 2 new fake albums with different track lenghts. The track length didn’t match my 2 fake albums or “mike”s long reviewed album.

It doesn’t matter if any of these are the real thing or not, I’m enjoying it, cause it’s good music that I have not heard before. The Campfire Headphase mystery. Maybe the secret will crack in October? A wonderful chaos have started here… Cannot remember a more anticipated release, with so much goodies on the way.

I liked both of my first fake albums, so I’m gonna continue downloading fake’s and buy the new BoC album when it gets released in October. /Fake

  52. Damn you guys! I was wondering why my site (45RPM) was chewing through so much bandwith.

Serves me right for leaving the whole album on my server though. :(

Anyway, glad you were able to get it. It’s pretty great, I’m digging it.

  53. http://thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3381462

    This is real right?

Have the real releases come out yet?

  54. Can someone give me a direct link (not torrent because there is no seeders for the fake ones because the real one is out) to the fake ones? Like Freescha, That one with country music and all the other ones? I want to see how they are like. Thanks!

  55. The other versions I downloaded from Soulseek was all the “real one” everyone is listening to. Just different track lenghts, small differences.

Have come to the conclusion that both albums are made by Boards of Canada. Suspected it was Fresscha, since everyone was talking about them, but after listening to their sound and music, I don’t think it’s them.

Why I think this: – If this was someone else’s music, not BoC, why have no one identified the music already? It’s awesome music, even better then the “real one”, according to my taste. A bit more difficult.

Hoping for a 2 disc mystery release, on the 17′th october. Or that these mystery talents comes forward, so I can buy their album as well.

For the love of the Gods…I (and many others) have CONFIRMED that the supposed “Freescha” leak actually includes FREESCHA TRACKS! If you had listened to some Freescha tracks like I did you would have also come to this conclusion and would not have posted this late coming and damningly stupid post. I’ll now recite a snippet of what I posted on August 21st, 2005 at 6:11 pm on http://www.mercurious.com...

“?Radio Heart? by Freescha = Fake ?Oscar See Through Red Eye?
?Come Good? by Freescha = Fake ?Ataronchronon?
?Whatcha Gonna Go For It? by Freescha = Fake ?Peacock Tail?”

There is more that can be said about this ridiculous theory you have brought to our attention but for now go fire up Limewire, Kazaa, or whatever other shitty, virus laden, lawsuit inducing P2P app you use and download these Freescha tracks. Then go drink yourself to sleep…

  57. After listening to the real version of ‘The Campfire Headphase’ I have to say i’m severely dissapointed. This album sounds like a mutation of Blue State’s ‘Nothing Changes Under the Sun’. Its basically a loungy downbeat set of experiments they just decided to throw together just for the sake of creating something new. The added guitar work is acceptable at best ( Dayvan Cowboy ) and laughable at worst ( Chromakey Dreamcoat ) but it just doesn’t seem to work for me after compairing it to MHTRTC and Geogaddi. Where have the spine tingling, haunting melodies gone? Somewhere else I guess. This entire album sounds more like a side project under a different alias than a proper BOC follow up to Geogaddi. As well as the music the flow of the album leaves me with a sour taste in my mouth. Even the intro lacks in emotion and character. Whats happened to my favourite artists? Perhaps kidnapped by impostors? Or even worse …. Gone mad with wanting to fit in? If you liked this album I have nothing against you. I’m just stating my opinion. Overall this album gets a FAT 6 out of 10.

  58. Oh and do yourself a favor and get Isolee’s ‘We are Monster’. Now thats an idm record worth spending money on.

  59. RAKEL  |   Posted on Sep 27th, 2005

Anybody ever figure out what that track was that had the sample “I was kind of on my own” in one of the fake sets with all the Freescha tunes?

  60. mike  |   Posted on Sep 30th, 2005

sorry forgot to add my bloody valentine loveless to that completely inconsequential and pointless list of albums that affected me more than ‘the campfire headphase’ did. the bloody thing isnt even out yet. i hope its all an elaborate ploy put on by the duo in conjunction with warp and bleep and the internet. god DAMN INTERNET spoils everything.

  61. mike  |   Posted on Sep 30th, 2005

and do we really have to wait 5 MORE BLOODY YEARS FOR THE NEXT EFFORT? EOIN, SANDISON IF YOURE READING THIS… DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT.

  62. bleh  |   Posted on Oct 1st, 2005

JL, This album fucking owns, if your going to complain about it, don’t listen to it.

Hey, I was fooling around on ebay, check this out.

  63. neil  |   Posted on Oct 2nd, 2005

have a bit of self-control people. downloading albums always spoils the enjoyment and it just ain’t right. those lovely boards have put years of work into this record, which will no doubt be great, and i for one am gonna buy it on cd and play it loud on my nice stereo.

  64. Bleh you don’t make a lick of sense “If your going to complain about it, don’t listen to it”. BOC is my favourite group by far but when I dislike something i’m not going to just pretend I love it. I’m just coming from a different angle on what I took from the experience.I just think they could have pulled off something spectacular while working on it for so long and instead decided to take a big fat constipated dump in my ear. Just let it be, some will like it some won’t.

  65. I already mentioned Isolee ‘We Are Monster’[playhouse records] but I have to give it up to Warp who came through with Jackson And His Computer Band ‘Smash’. The frenchy schools Boards of Canada in every way possible. Best album of the year BY FAR!!!

  66. electronix  |   Posted on Oct 4th, 2005

am i the only one who thinks the fake version is better than the original?? the original is by no means bad, but it’s not BOC… at least doesn’t sound like it. well, neither does the fake version, but it has some awesome tracks like “chromakey dreamcoat”, “sherbert dream” “ataronchronon” and “slow this bird down”. the mood in these tracks is so dark and sad these could have well been in the follow-up album to Geogaddi.

  67. AndrewF  |   Posted on Oct 5th, 2005

Can anyone help me to map the fake BoC album to actual Freescha/whoever tracks, that way I can purge my mind of this hoax actually being Boards of Canada. so far we have
Fake BOC 01 – Into The Rainbow Vein = Freescha – Kids Fill The Floor – 11 Sotopes
Fake BOC 03 – Satellite Anthem Icarus = Freescha – Kids Fill The Floor – 12 Up The Coast
Fake BOC 04 – Peacock Tail = Freescha – What’s come inside you – 4 – Whatcha goona go for it
Fake BOC 07 – ’84 Pontiac Dream = Freescha – Kids Fill The Floor – 04 Kid Brother

Fake BOC 11 – Hey Saturday Sun = Freescha – Kids Fill The Floor – 09 Cherry Blue Boo
Fake BOC 12 – Constants Are Changing = Freescha – Kids Fill The Floor – 10 Henry Hudson

  68. AndrewF  |   Posted on Oct 5th, 2005

further to my earlier post the slightly updated track listing of the Freescha hoax is as follows

  69. Rakel  |   Posted on Oct 12th, 2005

I was kind of on my own.

  70. goober  |   Posted on Oct 14th, 2005

I fell victim to what has been identified as mostly Freescha tracks, but i love it!

Especially the last track “Farewell Fire” (19:44) which i found to be a beautiful experimental track, something I was hoping Autechre could have become over their last 2 albums.

Does anyone know if it’s also a freescha track cos i can’t find a 19:44 min of theirs listed anywhere. Otherwise who did it?! I must know!!!!!!

  71. Hey AndrewF. I just listened to both of Freescha’s albums, Kids Fill the Floor and Whats Come Inside Of You. None of those songs appear on the fake BoC album I have. So… Either there is 3 or more fake albums or… Though, I have never downloaded any fake album with any Freescha songs. Hmm…

  72. I have to say.. The fake album that I have, is better then Freescha’s albums and BoC’s new album. According to my taste… So yes, I am very curious on who the fake artist is.

  73. Rob Cameron  |   Posted on Oct 17th, 2005

I am sure we all know by now, but Pitchfork has reviewed Campfire Headphase… what is the consensus (or lack of)on the review?

For me BoC blew my mind, but it introduced to a range of unexplored new music.

This album is awesome but hasn’t been quite as exciting for me.
I’m not sure if it because of a lot of the other music I’ve been listenin to has put it in to perspective, or whether this album is just not as exciting.

Some of those guitars do sound pretty awesome though…

  74. Even though I might have bashed BOC’s new album I admit its starting to grow on me. Maybe not their best work to date but its certainly something for repeated listens. Since they are my favourite group I still had to buy it.Its been in my cd player since I received it today and I’ve now listened to it on repeat for a good 7 hours now. Way better than any mainstream release this year but not up to snuff as far as having to wait 3 years for it.

  75. AndrewF  |   Posted on Oct 18th, 2005

Hi Fake, the hoax I have does appear to different to the ones you have based on track length and containing Freescha tracks, see track lengths below

    01. Into the Rainbow Vein (1.38)
    02. Chromakey Dreamcoat (4.29)
    03. Satellite Anthem Icarus (4.40)
    04. Peacock Tail (5.30)
    05. Dayvan Cowboy (4.19)
    06. A Moment of Clarity (1.39)
    07. ’84 Pontiac Dream (5.14)
    08. Sherbert Head (4.15)
    09. Oscar See Through Red Eye (2.15)
    10. Ataronchronon (4.25)
    11. Hey Saturday Sun (2.37)
    12. Constans Are Changing (6.22)
    13. Slow This Bird Down (4.04)
    14. Tears From the Compound Eye (3.32)
    15. Farewell Fire (5.35)
    16. Hidden Track (7.45)

Unfortunately I do not have a seed or link for the album for you to try out, I’ll see if I can find one and post it later.

Oddly the Freescha tracks work better in the context of the hoax than the original albums…

  76. AndrewF. Yes, they are different. I’m not interested in the Freescha tracks, what I have here is better. I know this is probably a pretty bad idea, to put out my fake album on my site for download. Grab it and tell me what you think of it… Cause I just gotta find out who made it. When I know who made these or get 2 many downloads I will stop sharing it.

  86. davidr  |   Posted on Oct 21st, 2005

Fake, ‘Chromakey Dreamcoat’ on the fake ver. we have sounds so much like BoC, its nuts!!! but i’ve never heard it before.

  87. JohnD  |   Posted on Oct 22nd, 2005

Anyone seen (or possess) any BOC videos? I’m certain I saw an old BOC vid on MTV2 years ago (it was what got me into Geogaddi)… Can’t find it anywhere now? Did I dream it? HELP!! I recall really surreal, blurred, filtered landscapes – nothing else. God – isn’t that so TYPICALL BOC?!? Invoking those half-remembered memories…. ARGH! Campfire Headphase is incredible by the way…end of story. Take care.

  88. Hedge MAZE  |   Posted on Oct 23rd, 2005

I’ve got a leak that’s half Freescha/half Black Moth Super Rainbow. Some of it is very convincing.

  89. davidr  |   Posted on Oct 25th, 2005

you should get the one that match the track durations i posted above, the way the vocal samples are freaked are signature BoC stylee… this is killing me!

  90. I agree with the most of you that the fakes are clearly much better than the real thing. WHAT A SHOCK!!!

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME! i have recently downloaded the fake version of the campfire headphase and i must know who made the track entitled “chromakey dreamcoat”. I researched a lot and found out most of the tracks were done by the band Freescha but i could not find out who made this song, it’s amazing.

the lyrics go something like this “i’m kind of on my own”, and it’s repeated several times. if you want to listen to the song yourself my soulseek username is nuclear arab and you can find in my !!!!finished album folder.
