Great trend. Homogenous white boys covering sanitized hippie rock from the 70s!

I’m holding out for the entire Barsuk roster to put together a “Freedom Rock” album.

  2. I’ve never been so disappointed to be visiting my parents who don’t have speakers on their computer. Can’t wait until I get home!!!

    Ugggggggghhhhhhh.

  4. The Boy George version is one the most atrocious things I’ve ever had the misfortune of hearing.

  5. thanks for putting up the Seaweed version. i haven’t heard it in a few years.

  6. I always hold my breath when someone attempts covering a masterpiece…

    Where is the NOFX version?

  8. At a show at an Arizona university in 1991, the holy trinity of power pop (Jellyfish, Posies, Redd Kross) played together and all did this song as a finale. Jellyfish had been doing it for the whole tour.

Speaking of great duets, does anyone know a link to an mp3 of Rufus Wainwright and Ben Folds doing “Careless Whispers”? WAY good a couple of nights ago but it looks like they’ve been doing it for awhile on tour.

  9. Wilson Phillips did a version in an album of covers last year and I have to say it was really good–hushed and meditative.

yeah, i was thinking about the NOFX version which contains the twist on the lyrics like:

“if i could baby i’d give you my socks…”

    classic.

    well, not really.

    but funny, at least.
