Stereogum is all Sufjan’d out. The Illinoisemakers went on around 11:15 and mustered as much enthusiasm as they could for a fifth sold-out night of ironic cheerleading. This show’s theme was “Homecoming Dance” and a King and Queen were crowned at the end. During the encore they slowdanced to “Fools Rush In.”

Stereogum fave Laura Veirs will be opening for Sufjan 9/7 – 9/16, so if you’re going to any of those shows, don’t miss her!

Previously: Sufjan Stevens At Bowery Ballroom (Show 2 Of 5)

NYC hearts Illinoise, but even I’m sick of reading about him. What album should we obsess about next?

I hear this band, “Death Cab For Cutie” has a new album out soon. Anybody know anything about that one?

    Guilty Pleasures by Barbara Streisand

  5. Stella Artois? Wait, what were we on before… I think the flannel shirts. Or would it be ironic to still cover Sufjan. I mean because obviously we’re way past that and so it would be ironic to be like you know so literally 2 minutes ago… I just ingested myself.

  6. What’s everyone think of the new Broken Social Scene? Not as melodic as some of their other stuff, but its slowly growing on me.

    Any opinions?

How bout the new Super Furry Animals? That or the new Tommy Lee album (featiuring Nick Carter!). I hear it’s a concept piece about having a huge schlong and kicking your wife’s ass in and out of rehab.

  8. the ‘new’ twilight singers/dulli album. now that’s a cool muthafucka ya’ll

Joking? Joking? Hardly. I’m really curious about this band. I can only guess they sound like Big Star, as Big Star had a song called “Death Cab for Cutie.” If only some of this new bands’ music was available to the public…like maybe on a popular television program.

    (OK, OK, I’ll quit….)

  14. Man, that show was so great. Give it up to The Half-Handed Cloud though for covering “Ask” by The Smiths…

  15. Liking the new BSS too, although I was surprised by the mix. On first listen, it bothered me that the vocals on some tracks are so hard to hear, but after a few listens I’m warming to it…

  16. By the way, here is a response from BSS, to the leak:

  17. Richard Swift’s album. They just signed to Secretly Canadian and are finishing up a month long residency out here in LA before heading out on tour with BJM/Walkmen/Earlimart. Their live set is one of the best I’ve ever seen.

Broken Social Scene are a classy bunch. I agree on praising their new record- only I need to hear it! Ha! I’m sure it will pop up, but I will definetly be purchasing as well.

    Thumbsucker.

Polyphonic Spree, Tim DeLaughter, unreleased Elliot Smith…

While we’re talking about DeLaughter, his label, Good Records is about to release an album by a great band, Pilotdrift, who toured with Polyphonic in the spring. Check it out 9/20/05.

  30. I can’t stop obsessing now! I’m still thinking of driving over to Athens to see them (well, at least the xylo player) in person in Sept.

  39. Brian  |   Posted on Aug 30th, 2005

Where do you go to find out the themes for the upcoming shows? I’ve got tix for the 9/11 show in Detroit, and I don’t want to be the only one there not dressed as a Dr. Seuss character.
