There’s something ’80s-ish about it that I like. Maybe it’s the white backgrounds and over-the-top facial expressions. You’d think it was Split Enz if it was on mute. Watch here.

I like it because it’s the first time that they’ve actually shown anything resembling a personality. Maybe Interpol can follow suit with their next vid.

    love it!

Does this work on a mac? I’m having no luck.

  6. sisi  |   Posted on Aug 30th, 2005

That song sounds better than the last time I heard it. Perhaps it’s a new version. Allow me to release my inner teenybopper for a moment and say…Alex Kapranos is hot.

Chris: The video is in Windows Media format. You might check the website (www.franzferdinand.org) for a Quick Time version.

  7. Cutter  |   Posted on Aug 30th, 2005

Remind me why bands still make videos? Is there a television station that plays them?

  8. Chris: Open Windows Media Player and from the File menu choose ‘Open URL…’ (Command-U) and the URL to the video is: http://www.franzferdinand.org/video/doyouwantto_promo.asx

FYI: It probably won’t work in VLC, if you prefer it.

    Good luck and enjoy!

There’s a QuickTime version to be found at http://music.aol.com/artist/main.adp?artistid=607885

  11. Thank you, esque! That’s what I *really* wanted!

  12. “remind me why bands still make videos. Is there a TV station that shows them”
We’re watching it here. Talking about it here. It’s whats called viral marketing and argueably reaches more people then any video channel.

  13. I can’t say much for the songwriting that went on there, but I did enjoy the video.

Was anyone else entirely turned on by four the four of ‘em in their lil’ tight pants sharing the same “bed” in the beginning?

    Perhaps just me.

I like the appearance of a Kaws Chum on the wall of the gallery…

  15. Well, I love it. I think all the art references are clever and the song is damn infectious.

  16. Fuck all that shit, here’s a full .AVI download:

  17. Wow. That was one of the most hideous, embarrassing things I’ve ever seen; easily as bad as the worst of the ’80′s MTV fare (although something tells me that’s what they were going for). If that’s the new face of hip, keep it the hell away from me.

  18. calliwell  |   Posted on Aug 30th, 2005

The video: I like. The song? Well…I still “don’t want to.”

  19. I found it rather amusing myself.

  20. is that gagosian? heh.

but… i’m worried that suddenly the singer looks like me. time for a haircut.

  21. alex  |   Posted on Aug 31st, 2005

does anyone else notice a resemblance of the lead singer to michael ian black? his mannerisms in stella, which is funny as hell, are also similar.

  22. Watching videos? All on-line, baby! Welcome to the future! And as for it makes *me* think of the 80s, it’s those stripey shirts. Makes me think of the Romantics.

  23. rodney  |   Posted on Aug 31st, 2005

    i think it’s rather clever.
it almost makes up for the fact that they are fast becoming a frat boy band, right beneath the reigning champs Dave Matthews and Jack Johnson.

  24. Mike  |   Posted on Aug 31st, 2005

There’s me. Very end of the video. Left side. Red shirt.

  25. Mike  |   Posted on Aug 31st, 2005

    Ahem, left side. Excuse me.

  26. Sounds like “On and On and On” by ABBA. Somebody mash it up.

  27. homer Simpson  |   Posted on Aug 31st, 2005

Makes Me Hungry Like The Wolf.

    Me likey.

  28. Beth  |   Posted on Aug 31st, 2005

I saw the video on MTV maybe a week or so ago. It was probably around 9am, not prime time by any means. I thought the song was lame.

  29. I’m still not wild on the song, but it’s far better live.

..And the video is a wee bit dodgy, but I suppose it has its moments…

  30. Clashed  |   Posted on Aug 31st, 2005

    mega! nicely done

  31. kayleigh  |   Posted on Aug 31st, 2005

    nice dancing, mike.

  32. Byron  |   Posted on Aug 31st, 2005

Wow, that video was like the art-rock version of “Fight For Your Right To Party”. I’m not sure if that makes it great, ridiculous or both.

Still fond of the song though.

  33. clashed  |   Posted on Sep 1st, 2005

Beth is a liar … unless she means MTV2 or VH1

  34. This is one of the goofiest videos I’ve ever seen. That’s a good thing.

    I like that they’re showing a personality. It’s funny.

  35. Jessica  |   Posted on Sep 1st, 2005

I really liked the video. Any band that is helping to bring back the likes of Split Enz is fine by me. It’s better then all the other crap that gets played now on MTV2 and the like.

  36. ettett  |   Posted on Sep 1st, 2005

Are you sure that isn’t an old Kids In the Hall clip?

  37. Beth  |   Posted on Sep 2nd, 2005

Woah chill out clashed. I thought it was Mtv, but I could be mistaken… doesn’t make me a liar though. Go hug someone.

  38. So… is Alex gay? I’ve been wondering this for some time (not that I really care), but this song just sort of brought up the question again.

  39. The video is hilarious, the song…I’m still thinking. Ask me again in a few days.

  40. nwolff  |   Posted on Sep 2nd, 2005

it’s getting regular airtime on MTVU, i’ve seen it at least 5 or 6 times in the last 2 days

  41. Jack G  |   Posted on Sep 2nd, 2005

I too was reminded of the video for fight for your right to party.

I think it’s there best single to date and they’re certinally showing a great deal of personality. I think they’re an incredibly important band and it is really important that arty music can be over ground. It’s far superior then any other mainstream indie band at the moment. So cool, so hip, so fun.

Stylish and Scottish, how perfect can you get? For me they’re the most stylish to come out of Britain since… Britpop. Thank the Lord for Scottish indie!

  42. Alexi  |   Posted on Sep 2nd, 2005

OMG! Frickin’ awesome. Damn catchy! I’d never heard the finished version until now– just the live recording. It’s fantastic! I love it! I love Alex Kapranos!

You’re so lucky…..Dammit! Stuck in my head now. MUST WATCH AGAIN
