Tanlines – “Invisible Ways”
Tanlines already asserted that there would be “lots and lots of guitars on their sophomore album Highlights, and they weren’t kidding. Their first new single “Slipping Away” funneled understated melancholy through a chirpy web of guitars, but “Invisible Ways” lopes slowly along, Eric Emm’s morose voice flanked by mournful harmonies. It’s far more America than Yeasayer, but the brisk departure from their last album’s sound is by no means a bad thing. The band also shared an extensive behind-the-scenes piece centered around the song, including photos of where they recorded it and some background on the track.
