Watch Morrissey Cover Waylon Jennings’ “Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way”
Morrissey remains one of the most fascinating live performers of the last several decades, and though he’s performed literally thousands of shows, he still manages to find ways to surprise audiences. He surprised an audience in Visalia, California last week on 8/29 by casually dropping a Waylon Jennings’ cover into his set. Although he’s performed the song at least once before, this is the first time we have footage of Moz’s take on “Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way.” The sentiment surely fits into Morrissey’s philosophy though, as Jennings basically wrote it as snide kiss-off to subpar country music and, obviously, as an homage to Hank Williams. Though Morrissey infused it with a very Smiths sound instead of a pure country one, they share the same rebellious ethos, and the cover comes off exceedingly well. Watch below.
