Nigel Godrich Is In Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Nigel Godrich, the English producer and musician best known for working so closely with Radiohead that he might as well be the sixth member, has a role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Per IMDB, Godrich plays FN-9330, which means he is a Stormtrooper according to this Reddit thread. Humorously, film composer Michael Giacchino, best known for his work on the Pixar films, has a similar role as Stormtrooper FN-3181. Giacchino presumably got the gig because he has provided music for several previous projects by The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams including Lost and the two most recent Star Trek movies. It’s less clear how Godrich stumbled upon the role, but his involvement came to light last night when Four Tet tweeted at him, “you were excellent in the film.”
@FourTet thanks man!

This exchange is hilarious considering Stormtroopers usually wear helmets and it’s unlikely Godrich even shows his face in the role, but I guess we’ll all see this weekend! Unrelatedly, The Force Awakens allegedly marks a real sea change for the Star Wars franchise.
UPDATE: Three Flavours Cornetto filmmaker Edgar Wright, with whom Godrich collaborated on Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, tells us he’s the one who got Godrich the job: “I owed him one and this was my return gift.”
@stereogum @nigelgod @starwars I am happy to say I got Nigel the gig. I owed him one and this was my return gift.
