Stream Soda Without A Head (Stereogum Premiere)
As we heard on “Blonde On Blonde,” Soda’s new Dull Tools EP Without A Head wrings fresh vitality out of classic sounds, spiking its punk-rock racket with just enough distortion and noise to hearken back to the best of ’80s underground rock. Grainy, defiant vocals are stacked like a pyramid overtop heavy, driving bass lines and crystalline guitar sounds. Arlington Garrett’s harsh nasal rants exist alongside the guitars in the midrange of the EP’s supersaturated sound palette, while Lara Lookabaugh’s lofty, dispassionate voice floats above it all, tying together Without A Head’s wall of angry fuzz. Listen below.
Without A Head is out tomorrow, 1/15, on Dull Tools. Pre-order it here.
