Summer Cannibals – “Full Of It” Video (Stereogum Premiere)
Portland straight-up rock quartet Summer Cannibals are gearing up to drop an adeptly tempered onslaught with their album Full Of It in just under a couple of months. They have an uncanny knowledge of when to rock their faces off and when to pull back so each element of each song has maximum effect — whether it’s Jessica Boudreaux’s stoic, cutting lyrics and vocals, a harmony or interlocking line from Jenny Logan, or rapid-fire drum rolls from Devon Shirley. The album’s title track is exemplary of that control, with alternating sections of calm and mayhem reminiscent of early Sleater-Kinney. It’s a jagged, blistering three and half minutes of intertwining, rhythmic bass and electric riffs and smashing drums. Aubree Bernier-Clarke’s video features the band shredding every square foot of a house while doing everyday chores, even delivering lyrics from a closet and drumming with a shower pouf on the cymbals in the bathroom. It’s super simple, but it’s awesome, and looks like it was a lot of fun to make. Check it out.
