Spray Paint – “Burn Barrel” (Stereogum Premiere)
Spray Paint released two LPs last year — Punters On A Barge on Australia’s Homeless Records and Dopers on their hometown Austin label Monofonous Press — and they have yet another full-length, Feel The Clamps, coming this June on yet another label, Goner. The latest album’s lead single “Burn Barrel” premieres today. Aptly labeling themselves “avant punk,” the band blends classically ambivalent vocals with more experimental elements in order to achieve a unique sound. Perhaps their most defining feature: The space between each steady guitar part and driving bassline is filled with spirals of noise and warped droning that add an element of psychedelia to the otherwise straightforward orchestration. Listen below.
